I don’t know what it is about spring and summer but it just makes me want to paint my nails even more than normal! Here are my top ten polishes to take you through spring and summer, I’ve painted all of them with only one thick coat so you can see how opaque they are in comparison to the others: LEFT HAND: From Left to Right:
Max Factor Glossfinity – 55 Angel Nails This a lovely rose gold glittery colour that is pretty low maintenance and goes with everything. Very easy to apply and dries quickly. Due to the shade of this, it could probably benefit from a second coat just to intensify the colour a little more. £5.99 for 10ml
Nails Inc For Marie Claire – Fizz This was a limited edition polish that came free with Marie Claire (I mentioned it here) however, Nails Inc do have a couple of similar colours in their permanent line which retail for £11.00 for 10ml. The closest I could find in terms of a colour match that is currently available is South Molton Street however, I know they have done colours that are closer to this in the past but they have been changing their colour range quite a bit recently! I love the formula of all Nails Inc nail varnishes as they go on easily, dry super quick and are pretty chip resistant for a few days!
Models Own – Lilac Dream I went through quite a ‘Models Own Phase’ when I was about 16 and still have quite a lot of the polishes sitting in my nail box. This lilac shade is just beautiful for spring and summer. The polish has a great brush that makes it so easy to get a smooth and even coat and I feel that one coat is more than suffice with this shade as it’s so opaque! I couldn’t find this on boots’s website anymore but I did find it here and it was only £5.00 for 14ml! Bargain!
Mac – Steamy Now it would seem that, as I haven’t bought nail varnish in such a long time that basically everything I have included is either discontinued or limited edition! Sorry about that but this polish doesn’t seem to be any different, I cannot find it anywhere! It says it’s sold out on Debenhams’s website so it may just be out of stock but I suspect its no longer part of MACs collection. This is such a shame as the colour is a gorgeous hot pink that looks lovely and bright. The formulation is pretty nice too and the cap has a slightly rubberised feel so you can grip it better. It did retail for around £10 for 10ml I believe!
Bourjois So Laque Glossy – Amande Defile I absolutely adore mint green and this is the perfect shade for spring and summer. As the formulation would suggest it is incredible glossy and has a lovely wide brush for smooth application. It does take a little longer to dry than some of the others but I love this shade all the same. You will be pleased to know that it’s still on sale for £5.99 for 10ml!
From Left to Right:
Barry M Matte Nail Paint – Waikiki Now this is a bit of a wild card as it’s not a glossy finish but a matte. I really like the combination of bright lime and a matte finish. I’m not a massive fan of the Barry M formula in general however, as it was quite a cheap way to give this colour and finish a try I am still pretty pleased with it. It looks really fun and vibrant on the nails and is a steal at only £3.99 for 10ml.
Beauty UK -No 54 Orange (Girl Gone Wild is the updated name for this colour I believe) I love the colour orange as it’s just so fun and bright, this is another bargain nail varnish yet the formulation of this one is actually pretty great! Easy to apply and a really lovely glossy finish! It only costs £2.49 too!
Nails Inc for In Style – Copacabana Coral A lovely vibrant coral shade that picks up a bit more orangey red. Again this one was a one off for In Style magazine but keep your eyes peeled as Nails Inc are always releasing shades for magazines. Nails Inc do sell a similar shade called Brook Street for £11.00 for 10ml. I just love how bold it is and how this kind of shade always makes you look more tanned!
Bourjois So Laque Ultra Shine – Tangerine Fatal I do love bourjois nail varnishes and this one is a slightly more subtle coral than the Nails Inc. It does take a couple more layer to build it up to a nice opaque appearance but does have pretty good lasting power! Another lovely one for spring but also for holidays with a nice tan! £5.99 for 10ml.
Mavala – 53 London Last but not least is this gorgeous Mavala Shade. It is impossible to do a collection of nail varnishes without having at least one bright, sexy red shade. Red looks amazing all year round and this Mavala polish is a great example. It is quite a cool-toned red, which personally, I love. You can buy this brand in boots and they do miniature polishes so you can try a couple of shades! This retails for £4.75 for 5ml. Pretty long lasting, easy to apply, opaque in one coat. What more could you want?!
So there you have it, all ten of my must-have summer nail varnishes! I do apologise that a couple are no longer available but pretty much every nail varnish brand will carry a hot pink, baby pink and a bright coral so you could just pick your favourite formulation as a substitute and just match the colour! What are your favourite nail polishes for spring and summer? Also, has anyone tried the Nails Inc Gel Effect formula?
