Review: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze

Now I hope you don’t mind that you’ve had two reviews two days running but I have just been really enjoying writing them. I was at a bit of a loss as to what to write today, my revision brain is struggling to generate ideas, so when I saw my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick on my dressing table, inspiration struck! 2015-05-10 17.58.07If you aren’t aware, these shimmer bricks are Bobbi Brown’s highlighter offerings. They come in various different shades and retail for £32.50. Now I got given this as a gift at christmas by my lovely Godmother who, despite having three boys, buys amazing gifts for girls! You usually get something gorgeous from a high-end makeup brand or a nice piece of jewellery. She really does do amazingly well and is very generous! Inside the beautiful, sleek packing you have five shades that you can either wear swirled together or you can separate them out to create the look you want. Untitled-2As I have said, this particularly set of shades is called bronze and I do have a feeling that this one is perhaps targeted at slightly darker skin than mine as the colours are quite dark! They have a pinky toned one called Rose that I would like to try as I feel that it would be a little more suited to my skin but that hasn’t stopped me using this. I just have to have a bit of a lighter hand. There is literally no way I can ever finish this before I am about 40 as I just have to do a very quick swipe to get the right amount of product on my brush for a subtle high light. The amazing thing about this product though is the fact that all the shades can be used as eyeshadows. I have to be honest and say that this is how I have mainly been using this product as the colours look beautiful on the eye! I have swatched all the shades so you can see how pigmented they are and how well they transfer onto the skin:Untitled-3The shade at the bottom is what you get when you swirl the five shades together, a really lovely bronze/champagne shade that has lovely shimmery flecks! Being the stupid person I am, I swatched the shades upside down, so how they appear from bottom to top on my arm is actually how they appear from top to bottom in the packaging. Confusing I know!

Maybe it is because I don’t wear highlighter that often or that the colour is not the most suited to my skin but I don’t think I would go out and spend £32.50 of my own money on one of these. Yes the colours are beautiful; the pigmentation is awesome; they double up as eyeshadows; the packaging is sleek and the formula is lovely and smooth, but is it anything revolutionary or ground-breaking? No. I feel like I could get a similar product for much less money and enjoy it just the same. I love the Bobbi Brown brand and really want to try some more things from them but I feel that this is a little overpriced for what it is. And that’s saying something from a person who loves high-end makeup!

Have you tried any of the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks? Do you like the colours in this shade? Please also leave me any suggestions as to what you think I ‘have to’ buy from Bobbi Brown as I love their lipstick in Old Hollywood and feel like a good browse of their stand is quite overdue!

Much Love

  1. I don’t use Bobbi Brown much but I do have the rose shimmer brick. It’s super pretty. It does have a lot of shimmer in it though. I really like their undereye correctors. They comr in lots of shades and help hide dark circles. 😊

  2. I have pink quartz! It’s nice and it has pink-ey nude-y shades! I’m fairly pale so it looks nice on my skin tone. I will be doing a review on it soon 🙂 But even though they are very lovely I agree with you, they are a bit overpriced. I love me some high end makeup as well but eh, I think I could of gone without purchasing this. But I would love to try other Bobbi Brown products such as their foundations, primers and eyeshadows! I’ve heard great things about their other products.
