June Empties

I seem to be going through a hell of a lot of products recently and June seems to have been especially good for finishing things off. As per usual I have split the items into different categories to make it easier to digest! I’ll get into the post pretty sharpish today as there is a lot to go through! Grab a drink and sit tight, you’re in it for the long haul!

  • Lancome Hypnose Mascara – One of my favourite ever mascaras that makes my eyelashes look effortlessly fluttery! At 20 odd pounds, it’s not cheap, but I have a feeling I will be repurchasing this in the future!
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Sample – I’ve got to be honest and say that this didn’t really do much for me. I liked the feel of applying it but that is literally it. It didn’t make my makeup last longer, look smoother or apply better in the slightest. Would I purchase the full size? No, I much prefer the Body Shop Primer!
  • Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation – Perhaps my favourite foundation, it is so light, makes my skin look fresh and awake and is perfect for daytime. It never looks cakey, doesn’t cling to dry patches and lasts forever! Repurchase? Already have!

  • Touch of Silver Twice a Week Brightening Shampoo – I have used this for years and years as it helps to take the brassiness out of my highlighted blonde hair. I prefer the ashy blonde look so this is perfect to help me achieve that. It is also really cheap! I will definitely be repurchasing again!
  • L’oread Ever Riche Intense Masque – This is a really good alternative to a  Kerastase masque. It is sulphate free and makes my hair feel so smooth! I was just finishing this off to make some room in our bathroom cupboard but I have actually realised quite how much I like it! I may repurchase this in the future but not yet as I have my Kerastase one!

  • Clarins Hydraquench Intensive Serum – I have used this for a long time and I really enjoy using it. However, it is quite pricey so I have a Body Shop one to try now that this is finished. Repurchase? If I like it more than the Body Shop alternative then yes!
  • Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Travel Size – I love using this and the scent is incredible! It takes my makeup off so quickly and just feels so spa like! I already have a full sized tube of this so that will keep me going for quite a while!
  • Clarins Gentle Peeling Away Cream Sample – This is meant to be an alternative for an exfoliator however, I found it so messy and a bit of a faff to be honest! You spread it on your face, let it dry and then rub it off, removing dead skin in the process. My skin felt soft afterwards but definitely not worth the hassle! This won’t be purchased in full size!
  • Body Shop Vitamin C Moisturiser Sample – I’ve been through two of these samples and I really enjoyed how light and refreshing this was. It made my skin look a little brighter and more awake and I did really like using the two samples. I may purchase this in full in the future once I have used some of my other moisturisers up.
  • Body Shop They’re Real Remover Sample – I have to say this has got to be one of the worst products I have used in a very long time! It didn’t remove my eye makeup, it made my vision so cloudy I couldn’t even see what I was doing and I felt like I had to tug at my eyes more than normal as it wasn’t removing my makeup. I have another one of these but I don’t even want to use it as it was so bad! Definitely not purchasing the full size!
  • Garnier Goodbye Dry Cleansing Wipes – I quite liked these at the start but they did dry out really quickly. To be honest, I hate makeup wipes full stop now apart from the No7 ones and therefore I will not buy these again. I hate how they feel like your dragging your skin!

Bath & Body: 10122616_Fotor_Collage

  • Crabtree & Evelyn Honey & Coriander Body Lotion – This was so light and moisturising and made my skin very very soft! The scent was light and refreshing too and I did thoroughly enjoy using it. I would definitely consider buying the full size in the future, particularly during summer when I moisturise my body more often.
  • Laura Mercier Creme De Pistache Body Wash – Despite being pricey, this smells divine and doubles up as a great bubble bath too. This has lasted me quite a while as the formulation is so thick and luxurious so it makes the price more worthwhile. I would perhaps repurchase it as a treat but I do think the Body Shop Shower Gels are better value for money and smell lovely too!
  • No7 Revitalising Hand Saviour – This is a hand scrub that aims to make your hands smoother and softer. It really does that! However, I don’t have particularly dry hands so I feel like I’m not the target market for this product, although I did love how soft it made my hands feel. Repurchase? Possibly.
  • Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter – I may be alone with this view, but I find this way too heavy on my skin. Body butters in general just seem to sit on my skin rather than soak in and seem to be a lot of hassle. I wouldn’t repurchase this as I would prefer a lotion formula instead.
  • Champneys Spa Treatment Hand & Nail Cream – This made my hands so soft and you get a whole 75ml in a tube which is really good value for money in my eyes! However, I won’t repurchase as I don’t love it as much as my L’Occitane Amande hand cream which is definitely Holy Grail material!
  • No7 Beautiful Skin Dry Skin Rescue – I have a sneaky suspicion I used this product wrong, I suspect it would be better targeting specific areas like elbows or knees. I found it way too thick and heavy for my skin and kind of left a bit of a film on my skin. This won’t be bought again but I suspect it would be fab for people with really dry patches!
  • Post Card Paris Scented Bath Milk – One of the lovely girls that I tutored this year bought me this lovely bath milk as part of my thank you gift. I went in with low expectation and actually, really enjoyed having this in my bath! It made my skin so soft and the fragrance was light yet relaxing and made me feel really ready for bed. I think I would actually buy this again as it was a lovely evening treat!

  • Sure Crystal Invisible Deodorant – I’ve got to say, I’m really not impressed with these compressed deodorant cans, they do not last anywhere near as long as normal spray cans. In the summer, I do prefer sprays, so if I decide I don’t mind that a can only lasts me a few weeks, I will buy this again because it was effective and the scent was nice!
  • Serge Luetens Fragrence Sample – I mentioned this in my ‘what’s in my handbag’ post and I have enjoyed using it. It is a unisex fragrance so it is a little more masculine than something I would normally buy, however I did like the smell of it and it didn’t give me a headache which is a bonus. I wouldn’t buy the full size though as it is quite pricey and I prefer more feminine fragrances.
  • Chanel Chance Eau Vive Fragrance Sample – I LOVE this perfume! It is the only Chanel fragrance that I have loved and I would actually consider forking out the money to buy a full bottle! I have had lots of complements on this scent and I feel very special when I wear it. I do have other fragrances to use and that I love so the desire to purchase this will have to take a back seat for now!
  • Vitabiotics Wellwoman Original – As I mentioned last month, I am taking supplements to try and increase my iron intake. Mum picked me these up from Boots on the 3 for 2 offer and to be honest, I won’t be repurchasing them. They are over priced in comparison to other alternatives and don’t seem to agree with me as they make me feel quite sick. I have one more box to go through and then that will be it for these I’m afraid. £1 bargain vitamins all the way!
  • 4Head Stick – I honestly don’t go anywhere without one of these! I was always so sceptical, however, they do really improve my headaches! I get a lot of headaches around this time of the year through hay fever, and this has helped me out loads! I hate taking painkillers every day so this has saved the day. Repurchase? Already have done!

Phew! Well done if you’ve made it to the end! Virtual medal of achievement coming your way! I wonder if I will have this many empties next month?!

My Morning Routine: Collaboration with LucieLeannexo

I’m sure most of you guys read her blog too, but my lovely blogging pal Lucie and I decided to collaborate and do posts on our morning and evening routines for you all. Lucie opted for evening and this post is all about my morning routine. I decided to actually do my weekend morning routine as I am now back to working most days of the week and everything is just a mad rush and would not make a very interesting read!

At the weekend, I tend to wake up a bit later, usually between 9 and 10 unless I have something that I have to be up for. I take 20 minutes to check all my social media accounts before finally making my way outside of my bedroom. Sometimes it can even be longer than this as it takes me quite a while to properly wake up in the mornings. I’m sure i’m not alone with this right? Sometimes I don’t eat breakfast as I’m not always hungry, however, my breakfast of choice is Coco Pops and a Coffee. My brother likes to wind me up about the fact that I still eat Coco Pops at nearly 21 but I love them! I have them with skimmed milk as I like to try and keep it a little healthy! In terms of coffee, I use the Nescafe Decaf Cappuccino Sachets as I love a milky coffee but caffeine does not seem to agree with me. These are so quick and easy to make and quite cheap too! You can get them in all supermarkets and if you like caffeine, they do LOADS of amazing flavours! IMG_0735

After breakfast I jump in the shower and make sure i’m fresh for the day. My favourite shower gel at the moment is the Body Shop Virgin Mojito Shower Gel as it’s so zesty and refreshing. It makes me feel so clean and much more awake! I also give my face a cleanse to make sure all remaining makeup has been removed! At the moment I am using the Biore Deep Charcoal Cleanser as it leaves quite a nice tingly feeling to the skin which again, makes me feel much more awake! At the weekend, I also like to exfoliate my face, and I am still using my holy grail Liz Earle Exfoliator as its nice and grainy yet doesn’t leave my skin dry or irritated. IMG_0738

Once I’m more awake after my shower, I get dressed before going onto my skin care and makeup. I haven’t done an outfit of the day as well, for fear that this post would become way too long and rambling! I did opt for a dress though, as the weather is getting seriously warm in England this week and I find that they keep me cool better than anything else! So, onto skincare next and the first thing I do is tone my face with the Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner as I had already cleansed my face in the shower. After toning, I use my serum and I am currently finishing off the final drops of my Clarins Hydraquench Serum. This makes whatever moisturiser I put on afterwards soak in much better and my skin stays much more hydrated throughout the day. The moisturiser I have been using recently is the Body Shop Aqua Boost Sorbet as it is so cooling and refreshing in the mornings yet leaves my skin so hydrated! The final step of my skincare is to use the Body Shop Vitamin E Eyes Cube which is a eye cream in a stick format that I just swipe under my eyes and pat in. It makes the whole process so much easier and is really cooling and I’ve noticed that my eyes look brighter and more awake! I like to have a quick spritz of perfume at this point and I am using up my sample of Chanel Chance Eau Vive which I am loving! It’s so summery and long lasting! IMG_0739

Finally, onto makeup! I was so happy with this makeup look, some things however, are regulars on this blog, so I will make a list of everything I used and elaborate on some of the new things so that this doesn’t get too repetitive.IMG_0736

  • Claris Beauty Flash Balm – Creates a gorgeous and hydrating base and keeps makeup looking dewy all day!
  • Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation
  • Clarins Instant Concealer
  • Maybelline Brow Drama in Clear
  • Benefit Brow Zings – Today I swiped through the brows with the brow gel and then used the wax from this palette first, followed by the powder. I don’t normally do this apart from when I want more ‘stand out’ brows.
  • Soap & Glory Solar Powder
  • Clarins Woodrose Blush – From the makeup palette shown. This is currently part of a promotion Clarins are offering and was actually a free gift! The blush is gorgeous and incredibly pigmented!
  • Benefit Watts Up Highlighter – This isn’t pictured but I just popped it on the tops of the cheek bones and down the nose.
  • Eyeshadows from the Clarins Palette – I used both shades, firstly, the light pinky shade all over the lid and the darker grey shade in the outer corner and in the crease. They are both lovely shades and complement each other really well.
  • Urban Decay Naked 3 Eyeliner – I used the shade Darkside along the top lash line and a little on the bottom lash line too.
  • Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara – This was in a recent post and I am loving it! It makes my lashes look so full and fluttery in just a couple of sweeps. It’s great!
  • No7 Lipliner in Plum – This goes great with my new MAC lipstick and stops the matte texture of the lipstick being too drying!
  • MAC Mehr – A gorgeous matte shade and the newest to my collection!CIiCoOZWEAA803M

So there you have it, my morning routine for weekend days! I hope you have enjoyed reading this post and make sure you head on over to Lucie’s blog to check out her evening routine too.

The Budget Mascara I Will Definitely Repurchase!

You may have seen on Twitter a few weeks ago when Tesco Beauty were giving out various beauty products for free if you nominated someone via Twitter? Well, the lovely Ana from Ravishing Roses nominated me and I was only happy to accept! I picked the Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara* which is one I had never tried before but I have always looked at in the shops. Being a bit of a sceptic, I didn’t think it would ever arrive as if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is right? However, lo and behold a week later it arrived and I have been loving it ever since!

Firstly, lets talk about the price, this retails at  £10.99 in Boots, but I also found it for £7.95 on AllBeauty. Going off on a little bit of a tangent, you guys should definitely check out AllBeauty as they offer so many top products at a decent discount. This is because they are based off the coast of mainland UK so they avoid paying taxes of some sort. I don’t know precisely how it works but I know that they’ve saved me a lot of money! So, back to the mascara, I feel like this price is really reasonable, particularly when I compare it to the other mascaras I love to use like Benefit’s Roller Lash, Lancome’s Hypnose and MAC’s Haute & Naughty. When you compare it to those three, its pretty much half the price of some of them which is a great saving in my eyes!

I love the way Max Factor have designed the packaging for this mascara! It’s so chunky yet simple and I really like the sleek tube as it’s easy to hold onto! The fact that it’s so big means it’s really easy to find it in your makeup bag, but it’s perhaps not the best for travelling as it would take up quite a lot of space! Although I do like quirky packaging like the Roller Lash one, I think sleek and simple is my favourite as it feels more luxurious!

The main reason I had avoided this mascara for so long was for the fact that it has a plastic wand and I find they always scratch my eyes and I really have not got time for that! Both my MAC & Lancome favourites have bristle wands and I love the way they make my eyes look. I would still say I would choose a bristle wand over a plastic one, however the Max Factor one really does make my eyelashes look lovely with minimal effort! Like the chunky packaging, the wand is huge meaning it’s very easy to coat as many lashes as possible in one quick swipe. I did initially open the packaging and do a bit of a double take as it’s literally twice as big as all my other mascara wands which wouldn’t initially attract me as bigger doesn’t always mean better. No double entendre intended!

The formulation is nice and black which is great as I hate it when a mascara claims to be black yet comes out that wishy washy grey colour on the lashes. With this mascara you only need two coats to get a nice fluttery effect which is perfect for day time. I think at night time I would perhaps want a little bit more ‘clumpiness’ as I love my lashes to pack a punch when I go out at night. I do find myself reaching for this most days as it takes so little time and effort to get the look I want. I will add this into a FOTD post in the next couple of weeks so you can see what it looks like on the eyes as I couldn’t quite get the right picture the other day.

This will definitely be a repurchase mascara for me which really does say a lot! It’s cheap, quick and easy to use and it doesn’t take an age to remove it at night either! Win! I feel like I want to try some more Max Factor products now as I have been so impressed by this one. Do you have any good suggestions? Have you tried this mascara? If so, what did you think?

Review: The Body Jewellery Shop

Now one thing you guys probably don’t know about me is that I love ear piercings and tattoos. I went through a bit of a rebellious stage when I was 17 and got two tattoos and I have a grand total of seven ear piercings! I am always on the hunt for more ideas and new piercings as I love them but I am a believer of less is more so I am holding off until I find something I really really want, although there are two tattoo ideas that I have in the pipeline but Tom hates tattoos and piercings so he may need some winning over!

Anyway, the other month I saw that The Body Jewellery Shop were on EtailPR and I knew I had to try and work with them as they have some GORGEOUS items! Thankfully, they accepted me, and today I wanted to show you the lovely things they sent me. IMG_0719

They very kindly sent me three different items to try and I can honestly say I will be going back to purchase some others! Prior to receiving these items, I just left my surgical steel bars and rings in that I had my ears originally pierced with as I found them too tricky to change and I had to either go back to the shop or get Tom to get his pliers out. Scary! Anyway, these three items are so easy to put in and take out that I’m annoyed with myself for waiting so long! Here’s all the individual details in case you see anything that you like the look of too:

  • Turquoise Glitter Stud Earrings (ER063-6-IN)* – £1.99 – These are for you girls and guys that just like to have pierced ear lobes. I have my lobes pierced twice and these are the perfect size to allow me to have a second set of studs above them. I am a massive lover of anything glittery and sparkly and they do these earrings in various other coloured glitters, such as silver, pink and purple so I have definitely got my eyes on a few more pairs! They are made of high quality stainless steel so they won’t irritate your ears or turn them that god-awful green colour and for £1.99 they are a bargain! IMG_0709
  • Smooth Jewel Steel Labret Stud – Purple (LS06-16084-A)* – £2.95 – I have just had my helix pierced on my right ear for the second time and this stud is perfect to fit neatly underneath the ring I already have. As the back of the stud is completely flat, it makes it more comfortable to sleep on and it also doesn’t catch on things as much. This was so easy to pop in and out as the jewel ball just screws on and off. I picked the 1.2mm gauge as I like my jewellery to be quite thin but they make these studs in a 1.6mm gauge too. Again, this stud comes in so many bright colours so there is bound to be something you like! IMG_0713
  • Silver & Steel Ball Closure Ring – 3 Outward Hearts (SCL11)* – £2.95 – This is probably my favourite item they sent me and I’ve saved it for my favourite piercing. A few years ago there was a lot of people racing to get their tragus pierced but not being one to like having what everyone else has, I got my daith pierced instead and I absolutely love it! This ring is so much easier to put in compared to the usual ball closure rings and the three little hearts are so cute! There are a few options available for this item, again you can pick the gauge from 1.2mm or 1.6mm, but you can also pick the diameter for the ring. You can choose either 8mm, like I did, 10mm or even 12mm which means this is suitable for so many different piercings. There is even someone on the website who has used it for a lip piercing so it really is quite multipurpose! IMG_0710

Let me know what your favourite item is and whether you have ever tried anything from The Body Jewellery Shop before. I will definitely be getting a few more pieces and I will do a haul when I do! Although these items were sent to me for review, all the opinions in this post are completely my own and 100% honest. I just love piercings and new jewellery, I’m not gonna lie!

Much Love

P.S The dish in this post is from a company called East of India and I’ll leave the link here . They sell really cute things that are often found in little gift shops, that’s where I found this anyway. I use it to pop rings, bracelets and odd bits and pieces from my bedside table in.

P.P.S Fancy following me on Bloglovin’ and Twitter? I’ll love you forever!

Review: Clarins The Essentials Eye Make-Up Palette

The other week, my Mum returned from a trip to town clutching a House of Fraser bag containing the Clarins The Essentials Eye Make-Up Palette. Mum is even more Clarins obsessed than I am and we have both had our eyes on this for a long long time now. These are quite tricky to get hold of in stores now but they do sell them online, so if by the end of this post, you fancy getting your hand’s on one, here’s the link.

The palette contains 10 mineral eyeshadows in neutral shades ranging from pinky nudes, browns and taupes. I love all the colours in this palette and I feel like Clarins have picked really well when it comes to the shade selection. The only one i’m not a fan of is the light, matte cream colour. It didn’t swatch very well and I always find this kind of colour rather pointless as I would never ever reach for it. The eyeshadows range in finish which is a great plus, Clarins describe them as ‘matte, satin and pearl finishes with an ultra-soft texture’ although there is definitely one shadow that is more of a chunky copper glitter which is stunning!

As with most palettes, this comes with a lovely dual ended fluffy brush with a wooden handle. This is a lovely addition to the palette and is great for make-up novices who may not have too many makeup brushes in their collection. This palette will naturally be compared to the likes of the Urban Decay Naked Palette and seeing as this is priced at £35, I can totally understand why. I feel like this would perhaps be better priced at £30 as it has two less shadows than the Naked Palettes but is only £2 less. Another factor that I feel Clarins should improve on is the packaging, it really is dull! IMG_0706_Fotor

The packaging is just a simple glossy brown cardboard box, with an elasticated strap to keep it shut. I just don’t feel that it is very luxurious or high end and perhaps cheapens the whole palette? I think if they were going with this type of packaging, it should have been in the classic Clarins red colour to make it feel like more of a treat? This may be just personal preference but it is a factor to consider.

In terms of the formulations of these shadows, some are definitely better than others,my favourite is the glitter which is amazing! It swatches better than any other glittery shadow I have ever tried and looks gorgeous on the lid! The satin shades would be my second favourite, they are buttery in texture and offer a subtle sheen to the lid making them perfect for a daytime look. The mattes are probably the most disappointing of the bunch, there are three in total and they just don’t swatch quite as smoothly. On the lid they do blend out nicely though so overall all 10 are pretty great quality.

I did swatch all the shades but then wiped them off without picturing them! Stupid I know, so sorry about that! I have used the shadows once with a little Urban Decay Primer Potion and they lasted really well. They looked lovely and smooth and wore really well throughout the day. I haven’t tried the darker shades yet but the lighter shades are a perfect day time option! I do plan to do a ‘Face of the Day’ post on my Mum with this palette soon so you can see what they look like on. I think this was a great option for my Mum and I will definitely be stealing them from her every now and again! What do you think of the palette and it’s colour selection? Have you tried this before?

Top Tips For The Perfect Smoky Eye Look

When I was younger, I felt like the words ‘smoky eye’ were limited just to dark greys and blacks. How wrong I was! A smoky eye can be any colour palette that suits you, but there are definitely a few tips that I have learnt over the years that ensure a perfect smoky eye each time! image1_Fotor_Collage

The picture above is from my MAC woodwinked post but it’s one of my favourite smoky eye pictures so hey ho!

  • Use a good base! I like to use the Urban Decay Primer Potion but I have heard the MAC paint pots are pretty good too!
  • Start with a neutral colour palette. Before you go wild with dark or bright colours, stick to browns as they are a little more forgiving if you go in a bit heavy handed or don’t blend quite enough.
  • Start light and build up the colour. The first colours you should apply should be light and you can build it up from there, you can always add more but you can’t take away so start light!
  • Good quality and fluffy brushes! I love the Real Techniques Brushes and the Lamora Brushes which I mentioned in this post. They are both synthetic so they are perfect for buffing and blending out shadow. You want the edges to be the most smoky and the lines not too harsh so this is where the blending will be concentrated.
  • Sticky Tape or Post-It’s are good for creating a wing. Sometimes, you want to create a good wing shape with your shadow to elongate your eyes. Placing a piece of sticky tape from the corner of your lower lash line to the edge of your eyebrow will create the perfect shape and will keep the line nice and precise.
  • Matte colours are a blending must have! I like to use shimmer colours on the mobile lid and matte colours in the outer corner and crease, it helps to stop the whole thing looking like a giant glitter ball. This is something I have only discovered in the last 4 years and previously I favoured the whole ‘shimmer everywhere’ look!
  • Carry it onto the lower lash line. I like to use the matte shade I used in the outer corner, on outer two thirds of the lower lash line. This ties the whole look together and continues the smokiness.
  • If you’re going to highlight under your brow, keep it matte! I hate shimmer under eyebrow highlight! I feel like it looks really 80’s/90’s?! I don’t actually ever highlight under my brow as I’m not a fan but I know a lot of people do, so choose a matte shade a little lighter than your skin tone, it will keep the look subtle and classy.
  • Shimmer or matte, inner corner highlight. I have to say, I do like a shimmer inner corner highlight but matte also looks nice too! Use a pencil brush and concentrate this on the inner corner and the inner third of the lower lash line.
  • Practice! Make sure you practice, with different colours and different shadows, and keep a light hand! The lighter your hand the softer and more smoky it will look.

I hope you have found these tips useful, or that you’ve picked up one that you didn’t know before. Do you have any other tips to add to this list? If so leave them in the comments for both me and the other readers to have a look at!
