Let’s Talk About Bases!

I am forever on the lookout for new foundations. It’s like the more I try, the more I want to try so I thought I would share with you my current stash to tell you about the hits and misses that I have found!

The first category is lightweight bases and in my collection these include:

The Body Shop All in One BB Cream  – If you read my review on this product you will know that I absolutely hate it. There’s light coverage and then there’s non existent and sadly this falls into the latter category. I didn’t even find it moisturising and the colour adapting particles aren’t very effective either!

17 Sheer Coverage Light Weight Foundation – This is a really cheap option if you want more of a tinter moisturiser like coverage. This is darker than my skin tone so I keep this for the summer of for slightly darkening up another foundation. It is very sheer as the name says but is quite moisturising.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum – I have actually just finished this foundation and it will be featured in my rather belated empties post. This is a nice light dewy foundation but I found that on me I needed a touch more coverage and a slightly matter finish. For drier skin types though, I am sure this would be a real hit!

Rimmel 9-in-1 Matte BB Cream – This is my holy grail of lightweight bases and regular readers will know by now how much I love this product. This is my second tube of this and the slightly matte finish stops me from looking too shiny. I would say it’s more of a satin finish but this does provide nice coverage too. I don’t find this sticks to my dry patches at all but for very dry skin types there is another version of this that doesn’t have a matte finish.

The second category is every day medium coverage options which include:

Rimmel Match Perfection – The best drugstore foundation I have ever tried. You are probably bored of me harping on about this by now but this is just amazing. It works well when I have both oiler and drier skin and the colour match is the best I have ever had with a foundation. I love the way it feels on the skin and I use this every single day. I am halfway through my second bottle of this and I will keep repurchasing until I find something that tops this!

L’Oreal True Match – I know they have now changed the formula but this original formula was just rubbish on my skin. I have actually since given this away as I just never wear this and found it clung to dry patches, faded badly throughout the day and just looked like I was having a bad skin day, everyday!

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua – When I first bought this foundation, I absolutely adored it. I went through a bottle and swiftly bought another, however, since buying the second bottle I haven’t reached for it as much. When I get back from holiday I am definitely going to try this out again but perhaps set it with MAC Studio Fix powder over the top to give it a tiny bit more coverage and make me look less oily. It is lovely and lightweight and is a water based foundation so doesn’t feel too heavy on your skin at all which I love!

L’Oreal Infallible 24 Hr – I bought this a long time ago and swiftly deemed it not as good as others and shoved it to the back of my drawer. However, I am currently trying to use up products to slim down some of the excessive items in my collection and I have a new found love for this. It gives a good amount of coverage, blends really well and lasts a good amount of time during the day. I think I have been converted and I love the way this is making my skin look at the moment!

The final category is full coverage foundations which include:

Bourjois Healthy Mix – This is a great drugstore, high coverage option and I believe its the only foundation that I own that doesn’t have SPF in. This makes it great for flash photography as it doesn’t flash back in photos. Even with the heavier coverage this still feels light and dewy on the skin and there are plenty of shades to choose from. I have always been happy with this foundation and is a great option for nights out!

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation – I wrote a full review of this the other day so I won’t go into this in too much depth. However, this is a great option for full coverage, long lasting foundation. I covers many skin problems and doesn’t leave skin feeling too dry or too oily. For me it is too much for every day but for special occasions or long days I love it!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light – I have always found Double Wear to be way too heavy for my skin and almost like I can feel it clogging my pores. This is the slightly lighter version and I do prefer it. The colour match isn’t the best, despite being matched in store, so I don’t reach for it that often but it does pack a punch in the coverage department. I don’t think I will be buying it again once this tube runs out as it’s very pricy but I will try and finish it off.

Have you tried any of these foundations? If so what do you think? Please leave me any foundation suggestions down below as I am always on the look out for more!

Much Love

  1. I so want to try the chanel vita lumiere Aqua and the bourjois healthy mix. Both sound amazing! I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews around the CT Magic foundation as well so not too sure about it… It’s seems to be a bit of a marmite product! Xxx

  2. Chanel Vita Lumiere has been on my list since it launched, Fleur De force constantly raves about it! I have a heap of boots points so maybe I should go treat myself and get colour matched! I had a sample of Magic Skin and found it just slid off my face within hours – first time I’d tried anything from CT so was a tad disappointed!

    1. Oh definitely treat yourself! It’s so unlike any other foundations i own due to it being water based! It’s an odd consistency!! I do know what you mean, initially I was underwhelmed by the magic foundation but it really has grown on me! xx

  3. I’ve been trying to curb my tendencies to buy bases… but I still have at least 10 on the go at the moment. 😛
I hated that Body Shop BB cream too – I returned it!
Out of the ones you have, I’ve tried the Body Shop, Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, and L’Oreal True Match. I’m looking forward to reading your review on the Charlotte Tilbury!

  4. I have the Clinique blemish solutions foundation. I absolutely love it on a night out, because it covers everything. It also doesn’t require a setting powder. Definitly worth a try 😊

    1. I’ve only ever tried one foundation from Clinique about 5 or 6 years ago and it brought my whole face out in a weird rash. I’ve been nervous to try anything ever since but I have tried some of the blemish solution skincare so I should be okay! I’ll try and grab a sample and see what I think! Thanks for the suggestion! xx
