Review: Benefit Ka Brow & High Brow Glow Pencil

If you read yesterdays post, you’ll know I made a sneaky little trip to the Benefit counter in Boots the other day. I wanted to try out some of their new brow products as their Brow Zings has been one of my favourites for absolutely years now! The lovely sales assistant tried out Ka Brow on me as she said it’s like Brow Zings but packs more of a punch and she guaranteed me I’d like it. A high statement but she wasn’t wrong! I also picked up the High Brow Glow pencil and I thought I’d share my thoughts with you today on how I’m finding them!

Firstly, let’s talk about Ka Brow! This is a brow pomade in a little pot with a diddy eye brow brush included in the lid. This is a genius idea and is great for space saving when you are travelling (which I am right now as you are reading this!). There are plenty of colours to choose from but I got the shade 2 which gives me a nice prominent brow without looking too scouse brow!! The pot looks quite small to begin with but I expect this to last me quite a while as Benefit products are renowned for lasting ages and ages!! The one thing that has impressed me the most with this product is the sheer lasting power! Seriously, it lasts all day and looks as good when I come to take it off as when I put it on first thing in the morning. My brows also stay in shape throughout the day and the hairs are all tamed so this is an ultimate winner in my eyes! I have found that Benefit cream products dry out reasonably quickly in the past so I’m hoping the same can’t be said with this product but only time will tell with that one!

The other product I picked up was the High Brow Glow, something that I didn’t think I’d need or use. I’m not really a brow bone highlight kind of girl as I have always found them too strong, however, this is such a beautiful subtle glow and I am in love! The formula of this pencil has been changed and it is now the softest, most creamy and blendable formula you could wish for! The colour I picked up is the golden shade but they do also have a pinky toned shade. A little goes a very long way with this and I have used it every day for a week and I haven’t come close to sharpening it once! It’s definitely a product worth trying out as it is unlike anything else I have tried over the years!

Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with Benefit’s brow offerings! I am still not bowled over by their Gimme Brow but everything else has been great! Brow Zings is still a firm favourite and Goof Proof is the most handy product ever but for the time being these two newbies are sticking in the makeup bag as they make my brows look amazing! Have you tried either of these products or anything from the Benefit brows range? What do you think of them?

Urban Decay Event – Nottingham Revolucion De Cuba & a Tiny Benefit Haul!

Last week I went to another fabulous event, this time with Urban Decay! It was held at a bar and restaurant in Nottingham called Revolucion De Cuba which specialises in cocktails and tapas style food! It’s a bar I’ve never been to before but the lure of cocktails and makeup drew me in and I found myself there spending even more money! I thought I’d write a little post today to tell you what I bought and also how I found the event!

The event was £10 a ticket and that included a free cocktail on entry, a goodie bag, makeup masterclasses, a salsa class and £10 off any purchase you made on the night so it was quite a bargain! The cocktails I has were absolutely delicious and clearly a little lethal as I did spend the middle of the night being a little ill!! I was feeling a little off anyway but I’m sure the copious amounts of mixed alcohol didn’t help! Anywho that little damper aside, the evening was so much fun and I went with my friend Lauren and some of the bloggers from the Notts Alzheimers Meetup!

The masterclass used the Naked 2 palette, which is one that I don’t own; the Moondust palette and the new Vice Reloaded Palette. Seeing as I have two out of three of those palettes, I really enjoyed watching the masterclasses, however I do feel they were slightly more ‘basic’ looks and that actually were aimed more at really beginners with makeup rather than makeup junkies. A tiny bit disappointing but enjoyable nonetheless. Sadly the girls were in a bit of a rush to end the event so it did seem to be over really quickly which was a shame as I’d like to have seen a few more daring looks rather than just an everyday smoky look. We did get a fab goodie bag though and I did make a sneaky little purchase so I thought I’d share that with you too!

  • Naked Palette – This was what I bought on the night and for some reason only ended up costing me £22.50 through a little pricing error. Not complaining though!! I’ve wanted the original Naked Palette for ages now so I decided it was time to just jump on in and add it to my collection!
  • Benefit Ka Brow – I really love brow products and Benefit’s new ones have been getting a lot of hype. This product is a pomade with a built in brush and is so so handy. I’m doing a full review soon but seriously, this is good stuff!
  • Benefit High Brow Glow Pencil – I never thought I had a place for this in my makeup collection but boy was I wrong! It’s a under brow highlighting pencil and is the softest and creamiest formula! They do two colours, a pinky shade and a golden shade and I got the latter and I’m so happy with it!
  • 2x Urban Decay Perversion Mascara Minis – An all time favourite of mine! So happy to have some back ups!
  • 2x Urban Decay Primer Potion Selections – A staple in everyones makeup bag and these selections are always so handy!!
  • 2x Urban Decay Naked Skin Powder Samples – These little samples are a genius way to try the powder shades to see what’s right for you. They actually contain a decent amount of product too!
  • Urban Decay After Glow Blush Trio Samples – Three lovely colours and two that are actually really daring! I can’t wait to try them! I used the lightest most wearable shade and was pretty pleased actually!
  • Urban Decay Steal Our Look Sample – This contains 2 eyeshadows – Buck & Lounge – and a primer potion sample. The shadows are beautiful and buck is actually one of the matte browns from the Naked palette! Lounge is very similar to MAC’s club and is utterly beautiful!
  • Urban Decay Shadow Samples – A little box containing samples of 7 different shadows ranging from neutrals to brights. A great concept and something I can’t wait to try!
  • Urban Decay Travel Size Liner – I love Urban Decay Liners so this was a great thing to be included! It’s a lovely dark purple shade which will be lovely in the winter and with some of the purple shades of the Vice palette!
  • Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Samples – This was an amazing freebie! It contains 24 of the new Vice Lipstick shades in handy little sample pods so you can apply them with a lip brush. I have only tried the shade EZ so far which is a beautiful red/orange and I’ve used it three times and I have at least another 3 uses from the same colour which is great. This should last ages and includes all the formulas so I can give them a good try!
  • Benefit Porefessional Mask – These are quite new to the benefit range and something I am quite intrigued by! I’ll keep you posted on this one!
  • Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream – I’ve always liked this eye cream so I’m happy to have another little sample of it. It’s light and refreshing and soaks in nicely! Definitely worth trying if you are similar age to me and in the market for a new eye cream!
  • Benefit It’s Potent Moisturiser – Again, a really nice light product and something I have used before. I will happily use this up over the next few weeks.

I managed to get a lot of great goodies and the event was so much fun! Nicola, Lauren and I stayed for dinner after and I had a lovely night! Thanks to the Debenhams Urban Decay ladies for hosting the event and I can’t wait to attend some more in the future! What do you think of the goodies I got? Have you been to an Urban Decay event? Which product catches your eye the most?

A Quick Summer Breakfast Idea!

I fancied doing something a little different today so I thought i’d show you what I’ve been doing for breakfast lately as it’s marginally healthier the normal and it also is seriously tasty! It’s a really simple granola bowl but I’ve been loving the ingredients so here’s what i’ve been using:

  • Waitrose Pistachio, Raspberry, Apple & Apricot Granola OR Waitrose Cherry Bakewell Granola
  • Waitrose Fat Free Greek Natural Strained Yogurt
  • Nutella
  • Tropicana or Innocent Orange Juice

The waitress granolas are like none I’ve tried before, they are lovely and crispy and full of flavour. The cherry bakewell flavour is my absolute favourite but the pistachio one is delicious too. I pop this on top of natural strained greek yogurt as I prefer having my granola with yogurt instead of milk. This yogurt is much thicker and isn’t sweetened so it complements the granola nicely. If, like me, you have a sweet tooth, I add a spoonful of Nutella to the top of this magical concoction to sweeten it up further. In case you fancy something a little healthier, I have also used Yeo Valley Summer Fruit Compote and that is equally delicious! I finish this all off with a chilled glass of orange juice and you end up with a balanced, filling and really tasty summer breakfast! I also love to add chopped berries to the top to make it a little healthier!

What do you have for breakfast in the summer?

Review: Urban Decay Vice XX Reloaded Palette!

These last few weeks I have become an absolute palette obsessive! Literally, I’m going insane over eyeshadow palettes and one of the latest (of a few I still have to talk about) is the new Urban Decay Vice Reloaded palette. This palette was released to celebrate 20 years of Urban Decay and will be the last palette in the vice range! In the UK this is exclusive to Debenhams and in the states I think it’s Ulta but correct me if I’m wrong. The palette contains 20 shades from cult favourites over the last 20 years to some brand new shades! The second I saw this I was sold and swatching some of the shades had me swooning so I thought I better share it with you all in case you wanted to get your hands on one!

This palette is slightly more expensive than Urban Decay’s usual offering as it comes in at £43. For me, I thought this was a pretty good price to say you are getting 20 shades and a brush compared to the usual 12 in a Naked palette for example. The packaging is also insanely beautiful with the matte black casing, jewelled urban decay logo, self-opening feature and HUGE mirror! I was so pleased with the packaging as I have nothing like it and I think it really sets it apart from my other palettes! It also comes with a handy double ended brush with a large end for blending and smoking and a smaller end for packing on colour or smudging.

The shades in this palette really are stunning and the pigmentation for all of them is fantastic! The opportunities are endless with this palette as there are both brighter shades and more neutral shades to ensure that your every whim is catered for! I’m starting to try and experiment with colour a bit more and I feel these shades are a good way to do that as they are not as crazy as say the Electric palette but are definitely more ‘wow’ than the naked palettes due to the pops of colour! My hands down favourite shade in the whole palette is Roadstripe which looks initially just like a shimmery white but when swatched has quite strong reflects of baby blue and is just an amazing inner corner highlight colour when you want to jazz it up a bit! It was this shade that initially sold me on the entire palette! I would say the shade I am least likely to wear out of the whole palette is Hot Pants which is a baby pink as that is just not my shade at all, however, I am still determined to try and make it work for me in some shape or form! IMG_1611_Fotor.jpg

I’m not going to beat around the bush, Urban Decay have got it spot on with this palette in every way. The price point is good value for money; the packaging is to die for; the shade range covers all bases and the pigmentation is excellent. What more could you ask for!? I do plan to do a few looks with this palette over the next few weeks and potentially incorporate the Moondust palette too? Are there any colours you’d particularly like to see? If so let me know in the comments and I’ll do my best to make it work! Have you picked up this palette yet? What are your favourite shades?

#NottsAlzheimersMeetup

Last Saturday (The 20th August FYI) I went to my first ever blogger meetup which was in Nottingham and I thought i’d share with you all how the day went and what I received in my goodie bag! The event was run by the lovely Ellie from UniqueLoveStyle and was attended by myself and six other lovely bloggers to make it small but incredibly friendly setting! I had the best time and can’t wait to go to another meet up, my friend and fellow blogger, Nicola and I are thinking of potentially organising our own so if you are in the Midlands, or can travel to the Midlands, let me know if you’d be interested! I will list all the lovely bloggers with links to their sites at the end of this post if you’d like to check them out!

The setting for the event was a lovely little deli/cafe in Nottingham called Edin’s which I had actually been to before. It’s set in quite a quirky part of town called Hockley where more of the unique, standalone shops are situated. We had the back room to ourselves which was lovely and the place was surrounded in candles which was just gorgeous! On each of our chairs was a lovely goodie bag and we all sat down to try and decide what we fancied for lunch that day. As we were looking at the menu, Ellie told us all about Alzheimers UK, the main reason we were all there that day. Sadly, Ellie’s grandad passed away from Alzheimers and since then she has tried to raise more awareness of the disease by becoming a Dementia friend and also running this event. Something which I personally found very inspiring! We learned more about what we could do to help and there was then the opportunity to buy tickets to the raffle with all money going to Alzheimers UK. It was a bit of a win win really for me as the money was going to a fantastic cause and you were also in with a chance to win an amazing prize!

We ordered our food before the guest speaker came and all got round to introducing ourselves and just generally having a good natter, something that I absolutely love doing!! I was sat next to my friend Nicola and a new pal Lora but we were all pretty close and really got to know each other. Finally, food arrived and it all was amazing! I settled for the soup and a big bowl of chips but there were other tasty looking dishes such as risotto and gnocchi! I also had some strawberries and cream for pudding as I have such a sweet tooth!

After the meal we were introduced to our guest speaker for the event who was a lovely representative from the brand Weleda. Weleda was a brand I’d heard of but not had much to do with in the past so I found it very interesting to hear all about their values. I didn’t realise that their products are organic so everything inside it is grown and not made and many of their products are even vegan, with the exception of things including Bees Wax. The main product we talked about was the skin food which is one of their most famous products. This is an intense moisturising cream that can be used in a multitude of ways and even has celebrity fans such as Victoria Beckham. We each got a 30ml tube inside our bags which was incredibly generous so I can really give this a good try!

Speaking of the goodie bags, it’s probably time to tell you what we got inside as Ellie had done a fantastic job getting donations from some great brands! Although this post is not sponsored, I am going to link to each of the brands sites to say a little thank you for donating to help such a worthy cause! Here’s what was inside:DSCF9624_Fotor.jpg

  • Witch Daily Primer & Clearing Serum
  • Spectrum A04 Brush
  • Fullips Lip Enhancers
  • Collection Eyes Uncovered Nude Bronze Palette
  • Merumaya Mud Mask, Toner & Cleansing Balm Samples
  • Virtue Sparkling Energy Water
  • Esocare Coconut Oil
  • Weleda Skin Food and Body Wash Sample
  • Body Fantasies Body Spray
  • Koya Body Scrub
  • Ms Flow Candle (Not Pictured)
  • Georgia Lee Candles (Not Pictured) – I couldn’t find a link for this unfortunately!!

As you can see, the goodie bag was incredible and the brands Ellie managed to get involved with the meet up were great! I was so so impressed and surprised at what was included as I didn’t realise brands would be so generous for blogger meet ups! Ellie didn’t stop there as she also organised a raffle for us all to get involved in. Tickets were £5 each and the entirety of that money went straight to Alzheimers UK which was brilliant! I bought two tickets and believe it or not, I won on both – something that never ever happens!! Here’s the two prizes I won they will have their own little review post to go into more depth. One should already be up and the other will be coming shortly!

Ms Flow Monthly Box Review!

I went to the Notts Alzheimers Meetup on Saturday and alongside lots of other goodies I managed to snag during the event, I managed to win a couple of prizes in the raffle. I am going to do a whole post on the event and some of the other bits from it, but today we’re focussing on one of the raffle prizes I won and that was one of the Ms Flow Monthly Boxes!

Ms Flow are a subscription service that deliver a box to you just before your period each month. Each box is meant to help get you through the ordeal that is mother nature and help you be as comfortable and relaxed as possible. The box contains a good mix of the essentials: tampons & pads or whichever is your preference. It also includes other little goodies that are either edible treats to just satisfy that chocolate craving or miscellaneous beauty items to make you feel a bit happier!

The price depends on how heavy your period is so you can select how many tampons and pads you would require to cover your period.Light Flow costs £12.99 plus £2.95 p&p;
Regular Flow costs £13.99 plus £2.95 p&p and Heavy Flow costs £14.99 Plus £2.95 p&p. It definitely isn’t the cheapest service around but you can cancel anytime as long as it is at least seven days prior to your next delivery.

Inside the box (which was the May box) I got:DSCF9621_Fotor.jpg

  • 1 variety bag of tampons with about 8 in in total.
  • 1 variety bag of pads with again about 8 in in total.
  • A lovely little lilac candle in the scent Mediterranean Fig.
  • 1 sachet of Clipper Instant Hot Chocolate
  • 1 Yogi Tea Bedtime Teabag
  • Fudge Kitchen Double Trouble Chocolate Fudge
  • 1 Cura-Heat Patch
  • A tube of TIME BOMB Cleanse & Buff Mini Cleansing Facial
  • 1 Bar of Strawberry & Marshmallow Soap from the Milk Bar Soap Company
  • Bellapierre Cosmetics Champagne Shimmer Powder

As you can see, it’s quite a rounded box that I received. For me, the box was pretty much paid for by the Bellapierre Shimmer Powder (£12.99) and this was by far the most exciting product in the box! The colour is stunning and can be used on the eyes or as a face highlighter! I’m not a candle person but the Fig scent was surprisingly light and the hot drinks and fudge are always a nice addition! I love hot chocolate but I’m not really a tea drinker so I’ll be intrigued to see if I like the tea! I have always used the cure-heat packs if I have an ache or pain so that’s a nice addition to the box for me! Naturally I am most pleased with the beauty side of the box, I am looking forward to trying the cleanser and the soap smells delicious!

Overall I think the box is a great idea, particularly for busy working women who want something practical delivered to their door each month in time for their period along with a couple of nice treats for themselves. Personally I couldn’t see myself purchasing this subscription as I do think it’s a tad overpriced for what you get. It was nice to see a full sized beauty product in it though and it’s nice to try different brands of tampons and pads but I usually just stick with the ones I like or buy whichever’s the cheapest at the time. I’m not that fussy! I feel like the best target market for this box would be young girls who are just starting their periods, a treat like this each month would be a welcome surprise and would also encourage them to keep track of their periods! So any mums of young daughters, I would definitely encourage you to check this out and there was a coupon code in the box for 30% off your first box with the code SPECIAL30.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Ms Flow and the team for donating this box to the raffle, all the money raised from it went straight to help sufferers of Alzheimers and helped make us all more aware of the condition. I was very grateful to be able to try this box out and I won it on just the right day to make the most of it thankfully!! Have you tried a subscription service like this? Do you think it’s something you would consider using in the future?

Lip Balms For All Occasions!

Sadly, we’re rapidly heading towards Autumn now and before we know it, the weather will be back to it’s horrible cold, dull days again! If there’s one thing I hate about the colder weather, it’s chapped lips and I thought I’d write a post today to give you my top picks for lip balms to suit every occasion! This post is very kindly sponsored by EOS but of course, all opinions are my own!

The All-Naturale One – Sweet Cecily’s Mojito Lip Balm £3.50 I’m not massively fussed on the ingredients of products (please don’t shoot me!) but it is always nice to know that something is naturally sourced, handmade and contains no nasties! This Mojito lip balm ticks all those lovely boxes and also smells heavenly! This comes in a handy little tin and is a firmer formula compared to the likes of Vaseline etc meaning you don’t run out too quickly.

The Quick Fix One – Eve Lom Kiss Mix £16.00 This has a nice tingly sensation and is more of a quick fix than a long term protection product. It ever so slightly plumps lips and leaves them feeling glossy and smooth. It has SPF in and is menthol fragranced which explains the lovely fresh feeling. The nice thing about this is that it can also be used over lipstick too!

The On-the-Go One – EOS Strawberry Sorbet Lip Balm* £6.50 This little balm has really taken the world by storm and with it EOS (or Evolution of Smooth) has become somewhat of a household name both stateside and her in the UK! This lip balm is so handy for chucking in your handbag and using on the go as you don’t have to dip your finger into a tin and get all grubby! This strawberry scent is incredible and I can see why they’ve become something of a collectors item with women as the colours and scents available are just dreamy!

The Ones With a Hint of Colour – Clarins Natural Lip Perfectors £18/£18.50 Available in both a gloss and a balm format, these little tubes are just heaven! There are a variety of colours available and they look lovely and natural on the lips whilst still adding a little something something. I can’t even describe how amazing the scent of these is and it always makes me want to eat them (not advisable!!). I have had my eyes on the red shades for a while so I think i’m going to have to try that in the future! The gloss can also be used on top of lipstick for a glossy finish!

The Intensely Moisturising One – Clarins Hydraquench Lip Balm £19.50 – The only lip balm I use if my lips are in need of a huge moisture boost. One application is enough to sort them out and the rose wax in the formula leaves them silky smooth. The tube is nice and handy to avoid any grubby fingers which I really hate! The formula is by far the thickest of the ones I’ve mentioned so it’s better used at night time but it does soak in reasonably quickly so is okay for the day too but will last a lot longer on the lips than most others!

Have you tried any of these lip balms? What are your favourites?

Much Love

xoxo
