It finally happened guys…I got my hands on the original Naked palette and boy am I happy about it! I have been the proud owner of an ever-growing Urban Decay palette collection for a few years now and a palette I always wanted to get my hands on was this original one that started off the whole Naked trend. Now my lengthy collection expanded and I am planning to do a general eye palette collection post in the future so keep your eyes peeled for that, but today the centre of attention is entirely on this beauty!
First off, I have to say I absolutely love the packaging! It’s a gorgeous flocked brown packaging with a mirror inside and NAKED printed on it in gold. Personally, I much prefer this to the tin packaging of the Naked 2 & 3 palettes as I feel like they feel a bit cheap but I accept I am pretty much alone in this opinion! The best packaging they ever came out with on the Naked palettes was definitely the Naked Smoky, but this comes in a very close second! I think it feels really cute and I don’t have anything like it at all so it really stands out in my collection.
The price point is of course the same as all the other Naked palettes at £38.50. Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel like these have gone up in price ever slightly over the last few years?! To be honest, for 12 shadows and a brush you’re still getting a pretty good deal and I accept the whole inflation saga, but I find it annoying when the price keeps edging upwards, particularly as these are pretty expensive anyway. However, lucky for me I got this at the Urban Decay event in Nottingham and I had a £10 off voucher which should have made it £28.50 but somehow the girl got it wrong and only charged me £22.50. Who was I to correct her hey?! I feel like I got an absolute BARGAIN!
The colours and pigmentation are everything I have come to expect from Urban Decay, they are so high quality, easily blended and just generally beautiful that I can’t help but keep gravitating towards them! This has some great neutral shades and also a couple of shades that I feel are very reminiscent of both the Naked 3 & Smoky palettes which makes it a good all-rounder for travel! I’ll include a full set of swatches below but I have to say that my favourite shades in this palette are half-baked and buck. No surprises there really as they are the shades every single person bangs on about but they are just gorgeous! I have never had a true gold shade in any palette I have ever owned so this is going to be very well used and has been since I bought it! Buck is just a great crease/transition colour as it is a nice neutral/warm matte brown colour that works with every other shade in the palette. I do have to say though that there is not one shade in here that I don’t love and I would comfortably use them all in looks! I feel like its such a versatile palette as it has the darker more sultry shades for night time yet still has light every day shades in too!
As you can see below, they all swatch beautifully with one swipe and are intensely pigmented. The only shade that was ever so slightly less pigmented than the others was virgin, but this is a pale slight shimmer which I use in the inner corner or as a brow bone highlight so i’m not too fussed about it being less pigmented.
One thing I was really glad about with this palette was that it had less chunky shimmers in than the Naked 3. I feel like they do let the Naked 3 palette down as they are so crumbly and bitty! These ones are lovely smooth shimmers that look beautiful and are very creamy in texture! The final thing to comment on is the brush that is included in the palette. It’s not my favourite but it’s definitely not bad by any means. One end is a slightly more fluffy lid brush and the other end is flat for packing on colour. Personally I prefer when you have more of a pencil brush on one end as that is always what I am searching for when creating eye looks!
I am so happy that I finally have my hands on this and it now means that the only one I don’t have is the Naked 2! (Hint hint family, it’s my birthday next month!) This is completely worth the endless hype and I can’t wait to keep playing with it to see how many different looks I can conjure up! Have you got this one in your collection? What do you think of it?
P.s apologies for the weird time i’m posting this – I’ve been working today and suddenly had a burst of inspiration to write and post this!!
