A Month of Film Reviews!

I love going to the cinema but with prices becoming near enough bank breaking, it’s a pastime that Tom and I have been doing less and less. UNTIL… Meerkat Movies made its grand debut and we decided to try and see a film a week if possible. In the last month we have managed to see 4 completely different films and I thought for a nice little change, todays post will be a mini review on each of them for you!

Admittedly we were a little late to the party with this one, but we have finally seen it and boy am I glad I did! I’m going to put it out there and say that this was my favourite of the three Bridget Jones films and by far the funniest! We meet Bridget later on in life where her career is soaring but she still has not bagged herself that all important man! As ever with Bridget, not only does one potential man come along but two and this time, there’s a surprise pregnancy thrown in for good measure sparking the question “who is the baby daddy?!”. Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey’s characters are complete opposite and that makes the whole movie all the more hilarious. Guaranteed to make you belly laugh and a perfect finale for all you Bridget Jones fans out there! It’s got to be a 5/5 for me with this one!

As an avid reader, I had read this book a year or so before and was so excited that it was being made into a movie as the storyline is brilliant! Emily Blunt has been cast brilliantly into this role as Rachel, a alcoholic divorcee who rides the train into the city everyday to avoid her problems. Every day she sees the same couple who live beside the track and fantasises a ‘perfect’ life up for them. So when Megan (one half of this perfect couple) goes missing one day, Rachel cannot help but get involved. The storyline will keep you guessing right until the end, however I was really disappointed to see this had been set in America when the book is set in London. They even went as far to make Rachel’s character British so why change everything else? I also felt that the movie was a lot slower than the book, which had plenty of twists and turns that weren’t captured on screen. Although a good adaptation, in my opinion it was nowhere near as good as it could have been and for that reason i’m going to give it 3/5.

I’m going to hold my hands up and say that I have never watched any of the Dan Brown book adaptations as I just felt that they weren’t going to be my thing. Needless to say when Tom picked Inferno as his choice, I was pretty unenthusiastic. The opening few scenes of the movie are very ‘trippy’ as Tom Hanks wakes up in a hospital completely unaware as to why he’s in there. I really did wonder what i’d let myself in for at this point but as he befriends Felicity Jones’s character it becomes clear that he has a rather curious item in his possession and there are some very deadly people on his tail. Largely set in Italy this film does take it some great sights and does make you question what we as humans are doing to humanity and some of the problems that occur with an ever expanding population. After the weird first ten minutes had passed, I was glued to my seat and could not wait to find out what happened! With twists and turns right until the very end, it’s safe to say I LOVED this movie and would definitely recommend you watch it! Purely for the weird intro I’m going to give this one 4/5 and I’m determined to watch the Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons soon!

First things first, let it be known that I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan so anything new related to the series sends me into a blind panic of excitement. However, you need to know that this is completely different to Harry Potter and has very little linking it to the original movies. The story follows Newt Scamander, a wizard from London and writer of one of Harry Potters future text books, on his journey to New York and what happens when some of his magical beasts escape into the city. The storyline is quite fluid with no strict path and plenty of side stories going on, however the sheer magic of the movie meant that this wasn’t such a problem. You can tell the budget was pretty damn huge for this one as there was no expenses spared on the special effects and the camera work! Eddie Redmayne plays the role of Newt brilliantly and the surprise ending has set the scene for the next four movies to come! If you didn’t know, this movie is part of a new series of 5 movies that J.K Rowling herself is writing the screen play for and now I am desperate to watch the rest of them! Being the fan I am I have to give this a 5/5 for just letting me live in the magical world once more!

I hope you’ve liked this new post idea! If you like the format then please let me know as it may be something I can do again in the future if I can drag Tom to a few more movies! Have you seen any of these movies? If so what did you think? Are there any good movies out at the moment that you’ve seen? Let me know as I want to go and see some more!

The Best Beauty Haul Ever?!

Yesterday I dragged my mum off to a Christmas market in Nottingham as the lovely Becky & Holly Sheeran were going to be there and i’ve been dying to have a chat to them for years now! What I didn’t know was that the girls were bringing along sacks full of their unwanted PR products to sell off for charity and let me tell you, the prices were INSANE! IMG_2077.JPGHere’s what I picked up whilst I was there:

  • MAC Liptensity Lipstick in the shade Habanero (RRP £17.50/Paid £7)- This caught my eye when the Liptensity range came out and if you read (this post) then you will know how much I adore the formula! This is a bright and vibrant orange colour that has the slightest hint of red to it making it slightly more wearable than say Morange by MAC.
  • MAC Liptensity Lipstick in the shade Burnt Violet (RRP £17.50/Paid £7) – I love dark lipsticks with an absolute passion and as soon as I saw another shade in the Liptensity range I grabbed it and never looked back! This has a lovely purple/red undertone to it which makes it not appear as dark on the lips and pairs perfectly well with MAC’s Nightmoth Lipliner!
  • MAC Liptensity Lipstick in the shade Double Fudge (RRP £17.50/Paid £7) – In the packaging this looks nearly identical to Burnt Violet but when swatched they are totally different! Double fudge is an intense dark brown that looks really rich and deep on the lips. It is the perfect bold brown shade for this time of the year and is something I will get a tonne of wear out of!
  • First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Pads (RRP £28/Paid £10) – I love facial pads and I’m almost finished with my tub of Nip & Fab pads. I’ve seen this talked about by many a youtuber and blogger and always wanted to try them but felt the price put them a little bit out of my reach. Needless to say these were an easy purchase for me and I’ll let you know if they’re worth the extra splurge or not in the future!
  • Urban Decay Liquid Moondust Shadow in Solstice (RRP £15/ Paid £6) – I have had my eye on these since they came out so I was so excited to see them there! Zodiac is my ultimate favourite but Solstice was a close second so imagine my surprise when I saw it just lying there! I tried this out last night and the colour is stunning, however it did crease which surprised me, so next time I’m gonna try primer potion with it and see if that helps! Watch this space for a review in the next few weeks!
  • Urban Decay Liquid Moondust Shadow in Magnetic (RRP £15/Paid £6) – Not a colour I would initially jump towards, however I have been wearing more purple tones recently so I just bit the bullet! It really is incredibly pretty swatched and I’m going to enjoy trying to create a look with it!
  • Jouer Lip Creme in the shade Dulce De Leche (RRP £15/Paid £6) – I don’t usually go for light toned nudes as I feel they wash me out, however this really appealed to me and I’m kind of kicking myself I didn’t pick up more shades as there were loads there! It is quite drying and I’m still not sure if I’m on the Liquid Lipstick bandwagon or not but I needed at least on nude in this haul right?!
  • Urban Decay Cream Vice Lipstick in the shade Firebird (RRP £15/Paid £6) – Holy Crap this shade is gorgeous! Never ever would I have picked this up but it is beautiful! It’s like nothing else I own as it’s almost pink and purple at the same time! The cream formula is so lovely to wear and is also intensely pigmented! I was so happy when I swatched this at home that I declared that I never wanted to take it off!
  • Urban Decay Comfort Matte Vice Lipstick in the shade Heroine (RRP £15/Paid £6) – I know what you’re thinking, ‘but Molly, that’s BLUE!’ but I just had to have it! The comfort formula is so lovely to wear and the pigmentation is amazing! Although the finish is matte, it definitely feels more like a cream on the lips thankfully! This means it applies like a dream too! Let’s see when I get to wear this bad boy then!
  • Urban Decay Mega Matte Vice Lipstick in the shade Pandemonium (RRP £15/Paid £6) – I was clearly in a crazy colour mood when I was buying all these but I don’t have a true purple shade! The closest I have is Stylists Tip by MAC which definitely has more pinky undertones to it than this. The mega mattes are not as easy to wear or as comfortable but they’re definitely not the worst i’ve tried! Liquid lipsticks still take that top spot!

I’ve included swatches below for you, please excuse the mess on my hand, I went to a gig the night before and the stamp would not come off!!

Left: (Top to bottom) Magnetic, Solstice, Dulce De Leche| Right: (Top to Bottom) Heroine, Habanero, Burnt Violet, Double Fudge, Firebird, Pandemonium

It was amazing that Becky & Holly did such a lovely thing for charity and it was a pleasure to meet them both. They actually live in Nottingham too so we’re hoping to get some bloggers together soon which will be lovely! Which shade is your favourite?

10 Reasons To Apply For An Internship Now!

So you’re in your penultimate year year at uni, everything’s ticking along fine but what are you going to do after your degree is done or even this summer? This time last year I was in the same position, but I had always known I wanted to do an internship so I set about applying! Today I’m going to give you ten reasons why you should do the same!

  1. It gets your CV updated! – No matter what the outcome, applying gets you off your bum and updating your CV as it’s crucial for your application!
  2. It makes you realise your skills – Applications always ask probing questions so it makes you realise quite how good you actually are!
  3. Money! – Most internships are paid now and at pretty good salaries too! I earned about £2,500 for 6 weeks this year which was a lovely little bonus!
  4. Interview experience – Even if the application is unsuccessful, interview and application practice is vital for your future career and there is definitely no harm in trying!
  5. It makes you think about your career more – It really makes you think about what path you might like to go down in the future as you have to search for specific roles rather than just be lead down a particular route.
  6. You get to network – Throughout the application process you will network with some big names in the company. No matter what, that is valuable and it’s a great opportunity to ask questions about the industry you’re going into.
  7. Internships often lead to jobs – Want to take some of the pressure off in final year? Get applying! My internship had a 97% success rate in interns getting job offers after. It has taken so much weight off of my shoulders and I’m so glad I applied!
  8. Try a role out for size – Who really knows what they want to do?! I applied for an audit internship and I wasn’t a fan of the work. However, I discovered I had an interest in Tax and was able to try out the role during the 6 weeks too. I would have always applied for an audit graduate job if I hadn’t tried it out so I am so glad I did!
  9. All the work clothes! – Think of all the snazzy outfits you’ll get to wear during your time there or even just throughout the interview process! I loved this part! It made me feel like a proper adult!
  10. They’re so fun – I thoroughly enjoyed everything from the interview process to the entire six weeks themselves. It is honestly one of the best things I’ve done and I would recommend it to everyone!

So what are you waiting for?! Find some companies you are interested, think about all your skills and get applying! I guarantee you won’t regret it!

Seventeen Cosmetics Review!

Seventeen has been a brand that I’ve tried bits and bobs from over the years but ultimately I always think of it as a younger girls’ brand. However, over the last few months I’ve seen more and more new launches that catch my eye and also read plenty of blog posts that are raving about their products! So when one of their PR girls got in touch to ask if I wanted some products to try, I was definitely keen to give it a go!

I chose the All Out Pout Lip Palette* and the Skin Wow! Concealer*. They also popped in a little lip brush* for me to use alongside the lip palette which was super helpful as the one included in the palette is a little on the small side. The lip palette is a collection of 6 lip colours designed to be used either on their own or together to create an ombre effect on the lips. All the shades in my palette were red/orange tones (mine palette was in the shade Woo Me) but there are other colours available! The lip brush was the perfect mixture of flexible, yet also firm enough to create a nice sharp line around the edge of the lips. I really liked this brush and I will definitely plan to pick up some more in the future.

The Skin Wow! concealer was definitely the favourite product for me here as it is a fantastic dupe for the YSL Touche Eclat highlighting concealer pen yet comes in at a fraction of the cost! The applicator is a small brush that has a gap up the middle for the product to come through. It was so easy to apply the right amount and a couple of clicks was perfect for everywhere I wanted to conceal. The downside to this product is that there are only two colours to choose from as far as I’m aware. I used the shade fair which was the perfect light, highlighting shade that I like in my concealers! The packaging on this product is also very similar to that of the YSL concealer, with the luxury gold foiled tube looking equally as luxurious!

All in all I am definitely glad I took a step back into a more budget brand and the concealer and lip brush are going to be firm favourites of mine for a while now. The lip palette is gorgeous but I do feel this is more suitable for beginners to makeup as the pigmentation isn’t too strong and it has more of a glossy finish on the lips whereas I like to be quite out there with my lip choices. If you like a creamy, highlighting concealer though, then look no further as Seventeen have really hit the nail on the head with this one and I’ve been recommending it to all my friends!

Have you tried any of Seventeen’s makeup products recently? Which ones were your favourite? I have my eye on the contouring kit as the packaging looks nearly identical to the NARS ones!
