I feel like with all the trips I’ve been going on recently, I’ve not been on top of my empties posts! However, when I checked my box at the end of July I did find quite an array of items I’d finished up and thought it was time to fill you all in on them!
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray – I finished up both a full size (118ml) and a tiny travel size (15ml) of this! It is definitely my favourite setting spray and I have since purchased the medium sized bottle (30ml) to keep me going. I’ve also saved the bottles of these as I like the spritz on it and will be decanting my new Rimmel setting spray (review to come) into them as I HATE the bottle that one comes in!
Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer – I got this last year when I went to Lily & Anna’s event in Liberty’s. Having heard great things about this primer I was certainly eager to try it! I have to say it feel very silicone based and I didn’t notice a significant difference to my makeup when I used it. To say the full size is £55 and even the travel size is £20, I probably wouldn’t buy it myself.
Nude By Nature Translucent Loose Powder – I got this as part of the Feel Unique Sample Service and I really really liked it. It’s such a finely milled powder and bakes concealer like a dream! I’ve noticed a huge difference with my concealer not creasing too! I have bought the full size for quite a substantial sum of £22 but i’ve since tried the MAC one (which I used for my graduation) and I do think I prefer that. Damn it! I will use it up but I do think my heart now lies with the MAC Prep & Prime one.
Clinique Take The Day Off Balm (Travel Size 15ml) – I love balm cleansers and this one is such a lovely formula. There is no real scent to it which I like and it feels gentle on the skin. It neither strips the skin, nor does it leave a horrible residue. I have quite a few cleansers to wade my way through before I start buying more but when I do, I’ll be picking up a full sized tub of this. Thankfully I do have one more travel sized tub in my stash to keep me going for now though!
Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturiser (Travel Size 30ml) – Is it possible to hate a cult favourite moisturiser? I certainly do with this one! The formula is just horrible in my opinion and leaves such a vile sticky feeling to the skin after it’s dried down. I also find it randomly bobbles off my skin after a while which is just not pleasant. I also don’t feel it really moisturised my skin?! Safe to say, this one won’t be purchased and i’m glad that it’s finished!
LUSH Mask Of Magnaminty (Not Pictured) – I finished up the whole tub of this pretty quickly and it’s going to be firmly in rotation through my skincare from now on. I absolutely love it and found that it brought my spots to a head quicker and just generally cleared my skin up. I’ve got a few masks to use up at the moment so i’m banning myself from buying it, however I will be repurchasing in the future!
Bath, Body & Hair:
The Comforter Shower Cream – Why is it, that I find a product that I love and the brand discontinues it?! This is one of the nicest shower products i’ve ever used and bloody LUSH have gone and discontinued it! It’s already off the website and I only got this in May from the LUSH event! Safe to say i’m in a grump about this one!
The Body Shop Spiced Apple Foaming Bath – This is another one that’s been discontinued, although I knew this at the time as it’s one of their Christmas scents! I’ve dragged this one out as long as I can and now I’m down to just the shower gels. If they bring it back at Christmas, I’ll definitely be repurchasing as the scent is divine!
St Tropez In-Shower Gradual Tan (50ml Travel Size) – This is one of the only tans I actually get on with and the only one that’s never caused disasters! I’ve been through quite a few of these mini samples as they were in magazines and subscription boxes aplenty at one point but now i’m down to one travel size and two full size so I should be stocked up for a while!
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre Perfume Refill – I had one of these in my last empties too and i’ve been using this so much as it’s just so handy for travel! The little cartridges are 20ml each and fit in a small handbag friendly dispenser. I love all of the Chance fragrances so I like using this one for every day. I’ve only got one cartridge left now so i’ve switched to a different perfume (my old fave J’adore Dior) for the time being just so I don’t get too used to the scent and I can enjoy the last refill!
Deonica Fragrance Free Deodorant – This was very weird as there was no scent to it apart from that subtle alcohol scent. All in all i’ve not been very impressed with any of the Deonica deodorants and i’m pretty happy to be back to my old faithful Dove stick. I think I have one of these left for emergencies at Tom’s house but after that I won’t be picking up any more.
Bumble & Bumble Don’t Blow It Hair Styler (15ml Travel Size) – I don’t like using heat on my hair so I did have high hopes for this product but unfortunately, I really don’t think it did anything at all! I’m on the search for a good heat-free frizz prevention product though so if you know of any, let me know!
Packets & Wipes:
Tony Moly Pomegranate Sheet Mask – I’ve been pretty disappointed with the Tony Moly masks to be honest and they’ve been threaded through empties for a few months now. This one was one of the most ‘moist’ ones i’ve tried and I did like it for that, but it literally never dried! I found the serum was dripping down my neck for the half an hour I had it on my face and it was still soaking afterwards. This one did fit better which was good but again, I don’t think it really did anything. Shame really as they are such good value!
Simple Kind To Skin Wipes (7 Wipe Travel Pack) – Mum always grabs me some of these before I go on holiday and I feel like Simple skincare has seriously improved since I used it when I was younger. These don’t feel at all drying and are wet enough to do a good job at removing makeup! These will be a repeat purchase for holidays as they are just so handy.
No7 Beautiful Skin Wipes – I always had a pack of these lying around for lazy nights when I couldn’t be bothered to remove my makeup ‘properly’. However these had been in a drawer at Tom’s way too long and the last 5/6 had dried out completely. It’s a shame as they are bloody expensive at £7 a pack. I always preferred these to Simple’s as they were wetter but now that Simple have upped their game, I think I’ll revert back to those in emergencies!
Kiehls Calendula Herbal Extract Toner Sample – I’ve always found Kiehls skincare to be okay but nothing that stood out massively. However, I did really like this toner as it was more of a thicker consistency and hence not at all drying or stripping. Saying that I honestly have about 5 toners to use up so I won’t be purchasing any new ones for a while!
L’Oreal Pure Clay Purity Mask Sample – Thanks ASOS for adding this into my order! I’ve been meaning to try these masks for ages and I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed! This one aims to cleanse and mattify and I would say that my skin looked both clearer and more matte after this! My skin isn’t particularly shiny though so I think if I bought the full size it would be of the blue one (the one specifically for spots) as I think i’d get the most benefit out of that! My only gripe with this one is it did dry very stiffly on the face which very quickly became uncomfortable!
L’Oreal Mythic Oil Hair Mask Sample – I pretty much use a hair mask every time I wash my hair as it’s quite coarse and doesn’t get greasy that often. I really liked this one and although I forgot to put my regular oil in my hair after this, I found that it still felt nourished and hydrated! I’d definitely consider buying the full size, especially as its only £14 on Look Fantastic!
I feel like i’ve finished off quite a good range of products at the moment and it’s helping towards my declutter! I am still trying to get rid of things at the moment so take a look at my Depop page if you’re feeling nosey! My username is @therosebeautyfiles! What have you finished off this month?
Last month, I decided I didn’t have enough empties to warrant a whole post as I’d used so many things whilst I was away and I hadn’t bothered to drag the empties back home! I thought i’d roll April & May into one post and now two months have gone by, my empties box is literally full to the brim! I wanted to try and use a lot of samples up as they seem to be taking over my room and I’m quickly running out of space! Hopefully that will explain the explosion of empties you’re about to see and why there are just so many minis!
MAC Shanghai Spice Lipstick – This has been the most easy to wear lipstick! It’s a gorgeous peachy nude and just perfect for chucking on on a daily basis! I saved this for my back to MAC and I am hoping to get this lippie again in the future!
Body Shop Instablur Primer – I honestly feel that this is one of the only primer I have ever used that actually works! Ive written a whole post on it so I won’t go into too much detail but I am definitely sad that this is over! I would definitely pick this up again!
LA Girl Pro Conceal – This is a great concealer that also adds a touch of highlight under the eyes when you use a lighter shade! I’ve got some other concealers to use up but this is a bargain and I’d totally buy it again!
Too Faced Born This Way Foundation – I can’t believe how quickly I made it through this bottle to say I use so little each time! It provides a nearly flawless base and blends in like a dream. The shades do lean towards the yellow end of the spectrum but personally I really like this! I have a few foundations to use up but I’d buy this again!
3 MAC Nail Varnishes – These were in the shades Nightfall, Steamy & Rougemarie (I think this was the red one, i’m not 100% sure). These had just gotten old and seeing as I have acrylics now, I thought I would back to MAC them so I could FINALLY get a new lipstick with my empties!
Chanel Mascara Sample – I honestly can’t even remember a) the full name of this or b) whether it was any good or not. In my mind that means it can’t have been too great so I’m not going to think much about it now!
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre Refill – My God Mother bought me a gorgeous Chanel perfume set at Christmas which came with a perfume spray and 3 20ml refill containers to fit inside. I have made my way through the first one and in typical Chanel Chance fashion, it is fresh and easy to wear on a day to day basis! Lucky for me I have two more refills to go!
YSL Mon Paris Sample – I can’t remember where I got this but it was pretty average. A bit sweet for my liking and not nice enough to make me want to buy it.
Chanel Chance Eau Vivre Sample – Nordstrom have this amazing sample system where you can try things out at your own leisure before you buy. I completely took advantage of this and got so many samples! This was one of my favourite perfumes last summer and having this sample rekindled my love with it. Now I want a full size bottle, damn!
REN Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial – I really like this face mask but it goes off so quickly! Once oxygen gets to the tube the product goes a really weird colour and has a pretty gross smell. Despite liking it a lot, I wouldn’t buy it again as I don’t use it often enough to stop it going off!
Evolve Beauty Hyaluronic Serum
Simple Cleansing Oil – This is amazing and such a bargain! It left my skin clean and soft without feeling stripped! If you are on a budget then definitely pick this up, I honestly would pay double the price for this!
Dior Hydra Life Micellar Water – I LOVED this but I made a boo boo and dropped it and lost a good third of the bottle on the floor! It’s pricey but I found it to be one of the nicest micellar waters I’ve ever tried. I’m trying to psych myself up to shell out over £20 for the full bottle. Damn you Dior!
Lancôme Bi Facil Eye Makeup Remover – I’m pretty sure i’ve had one of these before and its a nice eye makeup remover but not so amazing that I have to run out and buy the full size.
MAC Eye Makeup Remover Sample – I was pleased to see a new MAC sample available at the checkout when I placed an order a while ago! This was nice and unlike bi-phase it wasn’t oily in the slightest. I think I probably would pick this up at some point as it was so gentle yet effective!
Tarte Maracuja C-Brighter – By far the nicest eye cream I’ve ever got to use! It brightened and nourished and was really enjoyable to use! If it becomes easier to buy in the UK i’d buy the full size!
LUSH Ultra Bland Cleanser Sample – I HATED this with a passion! When I tried this in the store at the Nottingham event it looked really effective but one use of this at home on an actual face of makeup, it was useless. I didn’t even finish this sample and I definitely won’t be buying it as it left 90% of my makeup on my face!
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm Sample – In contrast to the LUSH sample, I really really enjoyed this and it was so effective at taking my makeup off without having to rub at my skin. I’ve got a stack of cleansers but I’m buying this when some of them have been used!
Eve Lom Cleanser Sample – This was lovely but it is pretty pricey! Did the job but I think there are plenty of other good cleansers that are a hell of a lot cheaper!
Kate Somerville Exfolikate Sample – I’ve read so many good reviews of this but I honestly found it did nothing. On my hand it showed great potential but on my face, nothing!
Sunday Riley Blue Moon Cleansing Balm Sample – I’ve never tried any Sunday Riley products and this cleansing balm really was lovely. It felt luxurious but I don’t think it’s worth £46 in my opinion so I won’t buy the full size!
FACEMASKS & PACKETS:
Sephora Lotus Face Mask – Possibly the best sheet mask I have ever used! It’s so nourishing and soaks into the skin really well. Damn Sephora for not being in the UK as I would definitely make sure I had a constant supply of these otherwise!
Tony Moly Broccoli Face Mask – I’m still unsure whether the Tony Moly Masks actually do anything of real benefit. This was one of the better ones weirdly but not so much so that I want to buy more sadly.
Daiso BB Face Mask with Hyaluronic Acid – I picked this up from the Daiso store in Seattle and it came in a pack of 2 for something like $1.85. It was definitely worth the price and was quite plumping and nourishing! Give it a try if you have a Daiso store nearby!
Kiehls Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser Sample – I didn’t like this at all, it felt very drying and stripping and just generally a bit too harsh for my liking. Totally not worth the hype in my opinion!
Tarte Pack Your Bags 911 Undereye Rescue Patches – I really really enjoyed using these! They were so cooling and the jelly texture meant they actually stayed on my face for the duration! If I could pick these up easily, I would in a heartbeat!
Aesop Parsley Seed Mask Sample – I’ve heard great things about this from bloggers and I did really like it actually. It’s a while since I used this sample but I have another one too so I’ll give you a better review next time i’ve used it as I just cannot remember! I know I really liked it though!
Body Shop Vanilla Chai Shower Gel – I normally love Body Shop shower gels but this was incredibly thick and hard to get out of the bottle. The scent was a bit average too. It was limited edition at Christmas but i’m really glad I bought more of the Spiced Apple instead to last me throughout the year!
Nivea Stress Protect Deodorant – Randomly I had a deodorant change as I seemed to have waded my way through my huge backlog! This was pretty good actually and lasted well through out the day! Nivea, Dove and Vaseline are definitely my deodorants of choice!
Yankee Candle Small Jar in Sea Salt & Sage – Sadly another limited edition product! I couldn’t understand why as the scent was so lovely and fresh, however it was not very strong when it was burning. I mean I really don’t like strong candles but this was potentially even a little too subtle for me! I went through three of the votives in this scent too during May and I have one and a half votives left to use up.
Bath & Body Works Pink Hibiscus Hand Gel – When I was travelling with Emily, she gave me this as she said she was fed up with the scent. I actually really liked it as it was fresh and not too sickly unlike many of the other Bath & Body works scents! I wish I’d got another one in this fragrance!
LUSH The Mod Father Bubble Bar – This came from the Nottingham Event alongside a couple of other products in this empties post. However, this is the one i’m most sad about finishing. I think I counted that it lasted my 7 whole baths which is really good value for money! The scent was a refreshing orange fragrance and the bubbles were gorgeous! Thankfully it also didn’t stain the bath, which for LUSH is a minor miracle! It’s a real shame that this is only around for Fathers Day!
LUSH Tooth Fairy Sample – A very weird concept of using a powder rather than paste to clean your teeth, however I surprisingly really liked this! The flavour was bubble gum which would not have been my preference, however my teeth felt noticeably cleaner than when I use a normal paste! I think a little purchase may be in order!
Mark Hill MiracOILous Hair Mask – Any hair masks with argan oil in are usually pretty good on my hair and this one was no different. It was nice and nourishing without weighing my hair down or making it greasy! Quite a good budget hair mask option!
Thank god we’ve made it to the end! I’ve had this post in drafts for a couple of weeks now and i’ve been trying to build up to writing it as I knew it would be a long one! If you read all the way through then thank you, you deserve a medal! What did you finish up this month?
I’m sorry but how is it March 31st today?! This year is absolutely flying by, we’re a quarter of the way through already! It’s been such a busy month for me and Aprils proving to be just as busy seeing as I’m jetting of to the states on Thursday! As always, month end means it’s empties time and when I opened the box this month I had genuinely forgotten half of the items I’d placed in there over the last four weeks! I clearly have had a busy month!
Heyland & Whittle Orient Candle – This is the most obvious item in the box and probably took the longest to use up! I got it from one of my lovely tutees as a Christmas present and assumed I would have burnt it by the end of January! This thing was relentless and actually gave off a stronger fragrance as time went by too! I did prefer the slightly milder fragrance it gave off towards the beginning of it’s life but it was a lovely wintery scent nonetheless. I am also the sad act who is saving this glass to use for my Gin & Tonics as it’s the perfect size!
Soap & Glory Flake Away Scrub – This was in my CrossEyes goodie bag and I finally got round to using it this month! I can literally never be bothered to exfoliate my skin so when I do, I go a bit mad! I used this whole tub in one go and my skin felt great! I need to use some of my other scrubs up soon as I seem to have a tonne! I’ve always been a fan of this one though and would happily use it again.
Bath & Body Works Cherry Champagne Toast Anti Bac Gel – Oh how I enjoyed picking these out last year when I went to the states! My favourite was definitely the Island Margarita which they have since discontinued! Damn them! This made my hands feel nice and fresh but the scent was very strong to the point where people were commenting on it. It wasn’t a bad smell, just very intense. When i’m there next week I’m going to look for a milder scent for my next batch to bring home!
Clarins Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate – This is my all time favourite bath product and something I need to have in my life at all times. I can already feel myself stressing that I’ve let myself completely run out! I may have to order some more tonight! If you need calming down, go out and buy yourself a bottle of this, you won’t regret it.
Nip & Fab Glycolic Scrub Fix – This is my new holy grail face scrub as it just seems to work absolute wonders. Since my Nip & Fab haul, I have been loving this brand of skincare, but this has been the real stand out product for me! It’s such good value and leaves my skin in excellent condition. I have already bought another tube!
NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray – I love setting sprays and, regardless of whether they work wonders or not, I love spritzing my face with them to end my makeup routine. I’ve had this NYX spray a while and I really enjoyed it. It’s a good budget friendly option if you don’t want to go all out on the Urban Decay All Nighter. I would definitely buy it again at some point!
Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser – I’m honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed using this cleanser! It was great as a second cleanse or a morning freshen up and left my skin feel clean but not stripped in the slightest. It also left it incredibly soft which I really liked! I have cleansers coming out of my ears but if I didn’t I’d definitely grab this again!
Seventeen Skin Wow Concealer – This is such a dupe for the Touche Eclat but hey, i’m not complaining at the lower price! Unlike the Touche Eclat, this is more concealing than highlighting yet it does still brighten your under eyes beautifully. It also lasted a lot longer than I expected and at around the £7 mark it’s a complete bargain! I’ve written a post all about it here.
Tony Moly Skin Purifying Masks in Seaweed & Milk of Makgeolli – I loved using these two masks but I don’t know whether I can honestly say they did anything. I bought the full set of Tony Moly masks and despite being great value, i’ve not noticed any real benefits from using them which is a shame.
REN V-Cleanse Revitalising Night Cream – This was from my Look Incredible Advent Calendar and actually lasted me quite a long time! To say the price of REN skincare, I don’t really feel like this did anything that my other creams haven’t done and I did find it a tiny bit greasy with prolonged use.
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil Sample – I had this from Feel Uniques Sample Service and I actually really liked it! It was light and non-greasy and just seemed to dissolve makeup really easily! A pretty good find!
That’s everything for this month! What did you guys finish off this month? Let me know in the comments!
I know that February is a short month but seriously, where did the time go?! We are already in march which means that spring is well and truly on the way, the nights are getting lighter and the temperature is slightly warmer! Of course, the end of another months means its empties time again here on the blog and I managed to go through quite a few things again this month that I wanted to share with you all!
Eyeko Black Magic Mascara – I received this in a Latest In Beauty box in Summer last year and it remained in the drawer for a while as I was finishing off a few mascaras. I really don’t know how I feel about this mascara, I mean it wasn’t bad; it didn’t clump my lashes; it didn’t run or smudge and it had a nice dark colour. However, it just didn’t wow me so for that reason I probably wouldn’t buy it again.
Wella Oil Reflections Shampoo – This was in my Look Fantastic advent calendar and was a nice addition to the items! It lathered up nicely and felt nourishing rather than being stripping like some shampoos. All in all I thought it was nice but I didn’t notice enough of a difference from my regular shampoos to warrant me buying the full size.
Deonica Clean Fresh Deodorant – It would not be an empties post without a deodorant being included! This one was definitely better than the last Deonica one I had in another empties post but still not better than my beloved DOVE one! Still got a fair few cans of this left to go though so I must soldier on!
Body Shop Sweet Lemon Shower Gel – Again, if I didn’t have at least one body shop shower gel in my empties post would it even be an empties? This one is the Sweet Lemon scent that only gets sold when there’s a sale on. To be honest this is one of the first scents that I wouldn’t buy again! It didn’t really remind me of a lemon at all and the texture was very very thick and gelatinous so not one I would reach for again sadly!
Witch Daily Primer & Clearing Serum – I’ve seen a lot of people talk about this as I think it was in a blogging goodie bag at a few different events! This was in my goodie bag from the #NottsAlzheimersMeetup and I finally got round to using it! I loved the feeling of it on my skin as it was so thick and luxurious and soaked in beautifully. I definitely didn’t notice any difference with my skin though and to say it’s a primer, I didn’t really feel like my make up wen on particularly nicely afterwards. It’s a shame as I loved the look and feel of the product!
No7 Nude Lipliner – This is the best nude lip liner I have ever found. The colour is a perfect neutral brown shade and it glades on like a dream! It was only after I bought it that I found out that Lisa Eldridge recommends it too! It’s a great retractable pencil that also has sharpener at the end and to top it off, it’s only £7! I will be buying another of these in the future!
Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Oil – I love The Body Shop cleansers and I’ve been through one of these oils before and I still enjoy using it. However, I don’t think that the oil is as good as the Cleansing Butter which is my holy grail cleanser! If you prefer an oil texture then I would 100% recommend this but I think I will be repurchasing the butter rather than the oil personally!
Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal Wipes – I HATED these! The smell was absolutely vile, they were very dry the took no makeup off nor did they do anything good for my skin. A real fail of a product for me!
Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Mini in 01 – This is my favourite natural lip product ever and I’ve been through a couple of these minis before and a full size tube. If you don’t like wearing lipstick but want to try something more than carmex or vaseline then buy one of these, you will not regret it!
LUSH Lover Lamp Bath Bomb – I have a whole review on this here but to cut a long story short, I loved this and would 100% buy it again!
Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask – This is the second time I’ve had one of these masks and they are really enjoyable to use. They stick to your face nicely, feel soothing and hydrating and are incredibly cheap to pick up, sometimes even under £1. My only issue is that I don’t feel they really do masses for my skin, however I would keep buying them for the price and the feel!
Face Inc Instant Detox Sheet Mask – I got both this mask and the Garnier one from the CrossEyes event and I was desperate to try this new venture from Nails Inc. I can honestly say that this is the best fitting sheet mask I’ve tried and doesn’t gape or sag or crinkle anywhere on the face which is perfect! It’s packed full of serum and was really enjoyable to use. My skin felt lovely afterwards but like with most sheet masks, I never really felt a huge difference! Would definitely buy it again as a treat though!
That’s it for this month’s empties, I already have two in my box for next month which is pretty good going seeing as it’s only the 2nd of March! What did you finish up this month?
How the actual hell is it February already?! This month has absolutely flown by and I’m now into my final semester at uni EVER! I checked me empties box this evening and I’m actually really impressed with how much is in there! There was a lot of shower gel, clearly I had to wash the exam nervous sweats away a lot but there was some makeup items too which seem to be very few and far between normally! Here’s what I went through:
BATH & BODY
The Body Shop Spiced Apple Shower Gel – Aka the best scent in the world!I seriously stocked up on this this Christmas as it is sweet and spicy at the same time! I use it as bubble bath and it works just as well as the others I own and fills the bath with it’s lovely scent! I have multiple backups so hopefully it should last me a while!
Rituals Hammam Delight Foaming Shower Gel– I love the scent of this and this bottle lasted me forever! However I can’t help feeling it is more of a summer fragrance as it’s so fresh. It’s quite invigorating and awakening so not great for nighttime use which is when I normally have my showers in the winter! I can totally see me picking up another bottle of this during the summer months though as it’s very luxurious to use and reminds me of a spa!
REN Moroccan Rose Otto Body Wash – I hate the scent of rose normally as it just reminds me of grandmas or old peoples homes. However, I loved this shower gel as it seemed to put a modern, fresh twist on the rose scent. The consistency was much thinner than I was expecting but it lathered up well and I really enjoyed using it! Once I wade through my huge pile of shower gels I’ll probably pick up the full size of this!
Marks & Spencers Beauty Christmas Foam Bath – I got this in my blogging advent calendar and I really liked using it! The little snowman lid was really cute and it created loads of lovely bubbles. However it was seriously glittery and I got into lots of trouble with Mama TRBF for our bath being covered in sparkles! Definitely makes a cute little gift or stocking filler though!
Marks & Spencers Beauty Christmas Bath Fizzers – Another advent calendar gift which looked seriously adorable as it was three little bath bombs in christmas cracker packaging! Unfortunately these had no scent nor did they contribute bubbles to the bath. I was kind of sad actually as I expected more from Marks & Spencers but hey ho, you win some you lose some!
Deonica Aloe Vera Natural Protection Deodorant – Tom got given numerous cans of Deonica deodorant at work so he brought them home to me to save me having to buy some for a while. This was one of the fragrances I liked the best initially but I’m gonna be blunt here, it’s shit! From the second I put it on I already felt sweaty and uncomfortable! I knew I shouldn’t have strayed from my trusty dove! I have a few cans to get through of different fragrances but it’s safe to say i’ll never be actually buying them again!
Sweet Cecily’s Elderflower & Almond Hand Cream – I feel like I had this tub on the go for ever! It was a really nourishing formula that was all natural and made in the UK which I loved. However, I didn’t really like the scent as I found it a bit sickly and not at all like the two ingredients I expected it to smell like. It was nice, but not something I’d buy again, especially not in place of my beloved L’Occitane Amande hand cream!
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation in the shade Fair 3 – I am definitely getting somewhere with my foundation finishing mission! I am quite sad to see the back of this one as it looked lovely on the skin and lasted well all day. It was buildable and easy to blend and i’ve written a full review here. However, there is definitely at least half a centimetre of product left at the bottom that I just cannot get out and i’m really disappointed, especially as it’s nearly £30 a bottle! I think i’m going to hold off buying another bottle for the time being but I did love how it worked on my skin.
Benefit Hoola Bronzer – I can’t believe i’ve finished a bronzer off, that is honestly the first time that has ever happened! I do use this every day though and I also use it as a transition colour for my crease! I’ve got another box this size and then one pan in a palette so i’m well stocked for a while thank god!
Benefit They’re Real Mascara – I must be the only person in the world that doesn’t like this mascara! I find the wand so scratchy and my eyes kill when I use it as I always end up poking myself! It’s a shame as it does lengthen lashes well but it adds no volume! I definitely prefer Benefits Roller Lash which provides both length and volume!
MAC Fix + – I always use this to wet my brush when I want my shadow to pack an extra punch! This bottle has lasted me since April last year so it was a good little investment. However, the spray nozzle on this is utter rubbish! It blasts out in spurts rather than a fine mist so half of it misses my brush and if I use it to set my face it leaves big droplets everywhere. It’s a shame as I quite like the product. I definitely prefer the Urban Decay All Nighter spray for setting my whole face though. I may pick another small bottle at some point but I’m not going to race out and get one.
Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme – I love the Nip & Fab Glycolic fix pads but these were definitely no better than the regular ones. Apparently these have a stronger concentration of acid in but I definitely didn’t notice that myself so next time i’ll probably just go back to buying the regular pads!
Bioderma Sample – I must be the only blogger that had never tried Bioderma so when I got this sample in my Feel Unique pick and mix I was excited! I’ve never found a Micellar water that i’ve gone crazy over, until now! I loved how this made my skin feel and it took my makeup off like a dream! I might cave and buy the full size as I really fell in love with this, even from this tiny 10ml sample size!
Ole Henriksen Feather Weight Moisturiser sample – I didn’t like this at all. It smelt weirdly like playdoh and I just don’t feel like it did anything for my skin. Definitely wouldn’t buy it!
Tonymoly Sheet Masks – I used up the Tea Tree (Skin Soothing), Aloe (Moisturizing), Rice (Clear Skin) and Red wine (Pore Care) varieties. I love the tea tree and aloe ones but I didn’t really think much of the others! The red wine was definitely my least favourite as it smelt really weird and just didn’t stick to my skin at all! I’m still on the fence about these masks but for the price I guess they’re okay! See here for a slightly more in depth review of them!
This Works Deep Sleep Plus Pillow Spray – I normally hate the smell of lavender but weirdly I really liked the scent of this! I started off with just a few sprays to get myself used to it and then I progressed into more as I realised I didn’t hate it! I’m going to say I actually thought this worked reasonably well, which surprised me no end! I used it quite frequently during my exams and I definitely felt myself become more relaxed so I could get to sleep easier. Would I buy the full size? I’m really not sure as it’s over £20 and I just think that’s ridiculous, however I did like it more than I thought so maybe I will do at some point, especially around summer exams!
Those are all the bits and pieces I finished off in January. What have you finished off this month? Have you tried any of the things I’ve mentioned? If so what did you think of them?
I’m here today with another monthly empties post and in fact it’s my last of 2016! I’ve gone through a lot of skincare in December so i’ve got some new things to talk about and also things i’ve had in there for ages needing to be used up! I just wanted to say that i’m not sure how much i’ll be posting this month due to the dreaded exams but i’ll get posts up as and when I can!
Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream – This was a huge 100ml tub I bought a while ago and i’ve been trying to use it up for a while now. It’s a nice moisturiser but does have a tendency to make you feel a bit greasy when you wake up. If you’re on a budget though and your skin is on the drier side then this is worth trying!
Garnier Micellar Water – I’ve got to be honest and say I don’t really know what all the fuss is about! This is a nice product but definitely not a knock it out of the park skin care item. I only used this when I was feeling lazy or wanted a refresh and therefore don’t think it really has much of a place in my skincare routine.
Coach Perfume Sample – This described itself as raspberry and vanilla and I immediately assumed I would hate it but I was very wrong! It’s a lovely girly fragrance without being sickly sweet and I really enjoyed using it. I have quite a few perfumes at the moment but I really want this in full size too!
Viktor & Rolf Flower Bomb Sample – I’ve had a few of these before and decided I really liked it! I have now got the full size so no more samples needed!
Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk Eau de ToiletteSample – This wasn’t really for me. It was quite heavy and just wasn’t as light and fresh as I would like. I’d like to try some of their other fragrances out though as they sound lovely!
Ole Henriksen Clean Truth Cleansing Cloths – The smell of these was absolutely divine, I can’t put my finger on what it was but it was gorgeous. The cloths themselves however, weren’t wet enough for my liking and I felt like I was rubbing at my face more than normal. They did however, leave my skin feeling beautifully soft so I really am on the fence with these, particularly as they are so expensive for face wipes!
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation – I’ve had this in my makeup drawer for way too long as I think I stopped using it for anything other than nights out as it had no SPF in. Towards the end of the year though I decided I need to use up some of my foundations before they went off and I came across this again. I’m now so sad that it’s over as it’s a great foundation! It matched my skin beautifully and lasted all day. I can see another bottle being bought once a few more are done! In case I forget, I wear the shade 52 Vanilla!
Aurelia Botanical Cream Deodorant Sample – Is it weird to say I loved a deodorant?! It smelt like rosemary and eucalyptus which I loved and it smelt like that ALL DAY! It was amazing! At £18 a tub it is crazily expensive so I think I’m going to hang on until summer before I buy the full size so it can unleash its full potential against the summer heat! If you are prone to getting a bit hot and sweaty though, this is brilliant!
Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation Creme – I really liked this moisturiser! You can tell it’s more high end as it soaked in nicely and didn’t feel at all greasy. It was a nice mix of hydrating yet not overpowering my skin and it worked well. I have just bought an old favourite in terms of moisturiser though so I’m going to be using that up before I think of shedding more pennies on creams!
Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Serum – I LOVED this! It made my skin feel so soft and the cooling gel like consistency was a dream to apply either morning or night. I did mainly use it at night though as I wanted it to have time to work. I will definitely consider picking this up again in the future! I just need to check my skincare box in case I have other serums to use up!
Dove Invisible Dry Deodorant – An old favourite that I still love and will be purchasing once my ridiculous stash of sprays has run out.
MAC Prep & Prime Sample – I always like this as a base as it feels so hydrating but I do wish it has slightly less glittery particles in although you can’t really see them through your foundation! I think I have another sample to go through so we’ll see how I get on!
Sisley Day & Night Cream Sample – I did expect high things from this seeing as it’s such an expensive brand, however it wasn’t really moisturising enough for me and I found my dry patches started to come back slightly. A lovely product to use but just not right for me personally.
Bare Vitamins Skin Rever -Upper – This is a primer and skincare item in one and to be totally honest with you, it did nothing for my skin. It smelt weird and I didn’t particularly enjoy using it and I think its reasonably expensive too! Not really sure what it’s purpose is and I won’t be using it again.
What did you finish up in December? Have you tried any of these before? If so what did you think?
So if you can tell from the title, I’m attempting to do Blogmas this year! I’m not putting any pressure on myself so lets just see what happens. I have two advent calendars this year, the Look Fantastic one and a homemade calendar from my blogging pal Jay which was done as part of the Blogger Advent Calendar swap! I’m going to post each Sunday through December what I got for that week (or in this case part of the week) rather than daily as I don’t want to bombard you with advent calendar posts! Today’s post is a collective empties from the last two months and I’m pleasantly surprised at how much I’ve gone through!!
Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask – The hype around this mask is beyond crazy and when I saw it on offer in my local Boots for 99p I just decided I had to pick it up. I’ve got to say, I was quite disappointed as I didn’t feel it really did much. I tried out some Korean Beauty masks I liked so much more so I’m going to be buying them instead. Not worth a repurchase in my opinion.
J’Adore Dior Eau De Parfum – This is my go-to perfume and has been for a few years now! It’s sexy and feminine but not too sweet and I love wearing it. My Grandad always loves to buy me perfume as gifts so he has already replaced this for me.
Dove Invisible Dry Deodorant – You know the drill with this one by now. I have loads of new ones to try that Tom bought home from work as samples so this may be on the back burner for a bit until I get through the mountain of deodorant I have at home.
Ms Flow Mediterranean Fig Candle – This came in the Ms Flow Monthly box and despite not being a candle lover, this was subtle enough for me to enjoy burning without getting a headache. I hate spending money on candles though and I don’t even know if you can buy these on there own?!
My Burberry Perfume Sample – A little Feel Unique perk from buying all my christmas presents! This was such a lovely perfume and was a little spicy smelling! I thoroughly enjoyed wearing it but I definitely felt it would suit my Nan more (don’t get the wrong idea by that, its a gorgeous perfume!) so I suggested she buy it so I probably won’t pick up the full size.
Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream Sample – I’ve had so many of these over the years and despite being a lovely light eye cream, it’s never wowed me to buy the full size.
Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer – This came from my American haul back in April and I definitely picked a shade that was a bit too dark. The texture was lovely though and it blended in nicely. Seeing as I can’t get it very easily I won’t buy it again but if you live near a Sephora, try it as it’s nice and pretty inexpensive.
Shiseido Ever Bloom Perfume Sample – I didn’t even know Shiseido did perfumes but this one smelt lovely and fresh! No-one commented on it whilst I was wearing it though and that’s usually the sign of a good perfume so the full size will be staying in the shops!
Aurelia Skincare Miracle Cleanser – Picked up in the Glamour Summer Edit box and reviewed here, this cleanser is a pretty pricy item and is a cream rather than the usual balm I go for. The scent is gorgeous and it made my skin feel lovely but I just don’t think I can part with that amount of cash at the moment. I’d definitely use it again though in the future!
Lancôme Hypnose Mascara – The Lancôme mascaras are definitely some of my favourites and I’ve had the Hypnose version so many times now. It applies a great amount of product whilst adding volume and length. It’s pretty much perfect! I will definitely have another one of these in the future once I’ve used up some of my others!
Ardell 318 Accent Lashes – I don’t really do lashes at all but these accent lashes from Ardell are perfect for false lash morons like me! They’re nice and fluttery and because they’re smaller they’re much easier to apply. I have another pair in my drawer but I will 100% be buying these again in the future.
Viktor & Rolf Flower Bomb Perfume Samples (x2) – I HATED this when I first put it on as it’s so so sweet. However, everyone commented on how lovely I smelt and Tom said I should definitely buy it. By the time I had finished up two samples I’d been won over and I’ve since added it to my christmas list.
Oliver Bonas Pink Pepper Bath Marbles – A little birthday gift from one of my friends and a lovely relaxing and subtle scent for my baths. You do only get five in a packet though and I found two little bath bombs to be sufficient for me so a pack of six would definitely be better. A nice gift but not something I would buy for myself frequently.
L’Occitane Amande Hand Cream – My favourite hand cream of all time! The lovely almond scent is dreamy and the lotion is thick enough to feel moisturising but light enough to soak in quickly. I have at least another two tubes in back up around my room.
Clarins ‘Relax’ Bath & Shower Concentrate – My favourite bath product to date! This has some seriously amazing essential oils in that help to relax you without having a horrible lavender scent! I get out feeling a much calmer and happier human and for that reason I will continue to keep purchasing this beauty!
Rituals Hammam Delight Foaming Shower Gel – I love the smell of this shower gel and the unique foaming action of it reminded me of hair mousse you used to use when you were a child! I’ve since bought a large bottle of this as I like the formula and the scent so much! I reviewed it here if you’re interested.
Chanel La Solution 10 Sample – I’ve had this sample ages and to be honest I don’t think it really did much for me. It’s a face cream that only has 10 ingredients in it so is clearly aimed at people with sensitive skin. I don’t have that so I’m guessing it just wasn’t the right one for me unfortunately.
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation – This is the second bottle of this foundation i’ve finished up and I do really like it. My review of it is still one of my most successful posts and I would always recommend it to people who want a water based, light but buildable foundation. Worth the money and the hype and potentially something I would buy again in the future once I’ve used some more foundations up.
No7 Beautiful Skin Exfoliator – I micro bead exfoliator in a cream base, not my usual preference and not something I would use again as there are two other exfoliators that I like a hell of a lot better. Plus all the negative press micro beads have been getting has really put me off using them!
NYX Priming Spray – I love the idea of priming sprays and this NYX one was a hell of a lot better than the more expensive Smashbox primer water! I’ve got some regular primers to finish up and then i’ll be picking another one of these up! A great budget beauty option!
Prada Candy Perfume Sample – Another Feel Unique sample and again another perfume that I enjoyed wearing. It was girly yet not overpoweringly sweet so I liked it but again probably not enough to purchase the full size.
Rimmel Fresher Skin Foundation Sample – Oh god I hated this foundation! I was so sad about this as I love Rimmel foundations in general but this literally disappeared in patches on my skin through out the day! Definitely not their best formula! Try out their Match Perfection instead as that is my absolute favourite or even their Lasting Finish for long wear!
The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleep Mask Sample – Every time I go into the body shop I always poke my finger in this product as it’s so unique in texture! So when I got a sample I was so excited to give it a try. To cut a long story short, it’s horrible! It left my face so sticky that it actually stuck to my pillow in a matter of minutes and I had to prise my pillowcase off of my face. Just terrible.
Esocare Coconut Oil – I used this to remove my makeup and wrote a post on the pro’s and cons I found with coconut oil. An interesting and more natural product however I wouldn’t switch from my regular cleansers as I found it more of a faff that usual!
Eden Semilia Vitamin C Serum* – I was sent this to try and didn’t have massive hopes initially, however this was gorgeous! Such a lovely light serum that left my skin smooth and soft! I would definitely consider buying this myself as the texture was so light and didn’t clog my pores!
Ms Flow Grapefruit & Jasmine Candle – Again thankfully another light scented candle! Enjoyable to use whilst it lasted but nothing incredible!
Decleor Excellence Cream – This was very heavily scented and felt a bit too like an anti-ageing product which is pointless for me. I have another sample I think but after that I won’t be buying the full size as it’s just too weirdly scented!
CoLab Sheer Invisible Dry Shampoo – I wanted to love the CoLab range as I adore Ruth Crilly, however I have tried the Volumizing range and now the sheer range and I don’t like either of them. They make my hair feel thick and laden with product and it just makes it feel horrible in general!
Koya Beach Babe Scrub – I got this in the goodie bag from the #NottsAlzheimersMeetup and I loved it! The scent was to die for and reminded me of a caribbean cocktail or the tropical cooler from Costa!! It actually made me want to eat it! I don’t use scrubs that often and I have a mountain of them to get through but definitely something I would like to buy again in the future!
MAC Brave Lipstick – I’ve finally finished my first ever MAC lipstick! Cue happy dance! Brave is such an easy to wear, everyday pinky colour and the satin finish means it doesn’t dry your lips out! Whenever I don’t know what colour to go for I always reach for this. I have had another one in back up waiting for this to finish so this tube will join my back to MAC pile whilst I relish using a brand new MAC lipstick!
Nip & Fab Body Slim Fix – Picked up in a beauty box throughout the summer and despite being a lovely moisturiser, it did nothing for my minor leg cellulite like it claimed it would. I would imagine results are seen from prolonged use but this didn’t impress me enough to buy the full tube which is a shame as I adore Nip & Fab products!
Phew! We’ve made it to the end! That’s it for Blogmas day one and this long empties has reminded me why I normally do it monthly not every two months! Have you tried any of these products? If so what did you think of them? Let me know in the comments! Hopefully see you tomorrow if I can kick my bum into gear on the daily posting again!
